Decided not to buy.

Well I decided not to buy XSI. It just is MUCH more than I need right now. And I need to shape out my modeling abilities a bit more before going that deep. I may look into Messiah again depending on what C6 ends up having.

I looked at Messiah as well before I bought XSI. They handle pretty much the same as far as animation and the shader/render tree is almost identical. But there does not seem to be much activity with Messiah's development, it looks good now but I don't want another Eovia situation so went with XSI.

I have an academic license of Advanced, and I have not tried to import from Amapi yet but have seen good imports from Amapi from others. Will try tonight and let you know.

I havnt had any problems importing from Amapi... just use the crack free export with a good tesselation. Slight adjustments with the geometry approximation and the models look great.

Not sure where you looked Grendel but the Messiah dev team have released 4 updates to Messiah this year. With quite a few enhancements from improved rendering, a new particle system, a new manipulator, etc. a short list of SOME of the new features can be found here: http://forums.cgsociety.org/showpost...11&postcount=3

I was thinking about getting an academic licence of Advanced, but the reseller that has it for the cheapest only has version 5.0. This might be a stupid question, but after dealing with another software company that actually charged us for an update, I have to ask: will I be able to update to 5.11 if I get the academic 5.0?

The box ships with 5.0, when you register you will then have access to 5.11, which is what I am currently running.

Thanks Grendel, that was probably my last concern before buying. Although at $250 for XSI advanced, even at 5.0 the academic licencing is a tremendous deal.
