The more features they implement, the more fat the pdf will be. I guess, in C6 it will exceed 881 pages. And after all have done in C6 I believe they can make C4D from Carrara. So I will upgrade. Before Carrara price will be $3500.
And yeah, the tool does not do all the things on it's own, no matter how good is it.

P.S. Sketchy, thanks for notice about Elephants Dream. Cool work.

In Carrara all you need is the pdf documentation that goes with it.

I can have the most expensive 3d app in the world and end up not producing anything from it. How many people (not big studios) who own any of these apps (Lightwave, XSI, Maya, Max) could even produce a 20 sec animation similar to one of Elephants Dream's? I just don't know of any to this day. Do you?
I agree but buying extra book for application does not mean that this other app is more complicated.
Carrara doc is quite poor in its content : do you see serious examples on "How to build a a shader", or "how unwrap a real objet".?
like the other embedded app doc, it's more a reference manual than a user's manual. That's where some extra books are usefull, as thay are focused on a particular subject.
With Carrara you can produce something fast, probably faster than most of the 3D app, but you when you want to go further, then you have to discoverer everything on your own.

Otherwise i strongely agree when you say than it's not the 3D app that makes the artist

Still too pricey for me.
I have to decide between C6 or fondation. My main concern is animating the characters.

I love XSI. I started with, RayDream 4--eech, then Hash AM 98,99 (too many crashes, modeling was terrible, to Lightwave 7.5

Lightwave was/is awesome. You can do almost anything with it, but 7.5 had no dopesheet, so Char Anim was a challenge for me.

Then, like a fairy godmother, Avid releases XSI 4.0 FND. My wife bought me it as a 5 year wedding anniversary! It was like Manna from Heaven.

XSI; Powerful - Like Darth Sidious
XSI; Versatile - Like Obi-Wan Kenobi.

I skipped version 5 and now use version 6.

I will say this: YOU CAN DO ALMOST ANYTHING IN XSI FND. It does have cloth, and the cloth is GOOD and easy to use. (not my opinion, ask the guys on Cgtalk about XSI cloth)

The only reasons I use HEX is because modeling organic things are easier for me in it, and for displacement.

The symmetry tools in HEX2 are easy to use. In XSi, I can do it, it is just frustrating.

Download the 30 day trial, and I'm sure you'll be rushing out to get it.

@HeavyHanded
You can do almost everything in XSI. The particles are not that great
LW can bring much better results with effects.
I don't have LW but I think making hard surface modeling like spaceships
is easier.
