Compliments for the good work, Ash. May I ask how you deal with modo's snapping tools? It was the main thing that put me off when I tried 302 some months ago. Yes they improved, but I find them so cumbersome compared to Blender (just hold down CTRL and you snap to anything you can imagine, your feet included :-) . |

thanks jb, carroza. As for the snapping tools - didn't use them that much as part of this tut. I did find that snapping to the polygon was more useful than vertices for a few things. It's strange though, each time I tried Blender I just couldn't seem to get started and you like it. Yet when I tried modo it just seemed to 'fit' better. modo has a certain way of working that you need to get into. This has been said a number of times and now I know why you either like it or you don't. There is a thread on the luxology forums:http://forums.luxology.com/discussio....aspx?id=27159 that makes interesting reading on this subject. I think that to get the most out of modo you need to work with it and get really familiar with the way it works. I'm working my way through the tutorials and it is really helping a lot. Of course that's the problem - you only get 30 days. I was off work for several weeks and plunked down $25 for the InFocus and then another 25 for the watch tutorial. I had short listed modo and C4D and had demos of both. I hardly touched C4D during that time so Luxology got my money. Oops getting a bit off track here now ![]() anyway, at first galnce it doesn't seem to be the best snapping system in modo - I'll need to work with a bit more to see if it is just another example of getting into te modo way.

Thanks, Ash. ![]() I agree with you that modo (and Blender, too) have a very specific way of working, which each one person could appreciate or not. I find both applications a bit cumbersome compared to, say, Hexagon, but there it come the price thing and Blender has no competitors in that field. I'll follow your progress, Ash. |

Okay, here's a quick render of the final model. There's a couple more videos about texturing and stuff but I'm more interested in the modeling for the time being. So this is probably the end for this model. ![]() I learned a lot from this tutorial. It might not be up to the same image quality as the later ones but I recommend it for anyone starting out in modo. On to the concept car one now

Superb model Ash - the details are amazing. It would be great to see a video demo of someone working in Modo. Is there a good online video session with dialog you could suggest for the uninitiated? Best wishes.

For videos: Head on over to Luxology TV here : http://www.luxology.com/training/ Some of the vids are for older versions but give you the idea. There are some older tuts here: http://www.luxology.com/community/tutorials/ A couple of free ones on lighting: http://forums.luxology.com/discussio...d=28292&page=0 and modeling a cell phone (though no dialog) from: http://forums.luxology.com/discussio....aspx?id=26239 Both Luxology and Digital tutors also let you see clips of their modo training as well.
