| AKA RamPackWobble ![]() | are - model and render Thought I would start one of these threads. Most of the stuff I do never gets very far so I guess this would be a good place to show that I do do something ! (and hopefully encourage me to get some things finished)I bought Modo a couple of months ago but have only just got around to trying to master it. My first impressions were "Wasted my money here" as I just could not get my head around it, but I am gradually getting to like it more and more. I ordered some tutorials which arrived this last Saturday and have spent a couple of hours watching some of them. They have helped a lot ! Anyway here goes.... |

| AKA RamPackWobble ![]() | One of the tutorials was about doing some simple vials - this was going to be my attempt at something similar. What I intended to do was to make an advertising shot of this new product "Dehydrated Water". Some tablets in a bottle with a lid. The lid went well but then I got overconfident with the bottle ! The bottle actually came out quite well - although it is not what I was originally after and not really suitable for the product ![]() |

| AKA RamPackWobble ![]() | Once again I got distracted from my original idea - just playing with the shader tree adding to it and playing with settings...also a quick play with the painting part to add the greenish tinge. The bottle was made by adding three cylinders to the scene and bridging the faces from the top of the lower cylinder to the underside of the middle cylinder, then bridging the two upper ones together. Some tweaking was then required ![]() anyway back to the water tablets.... |

| AKA RamPackWobble ![]() | still playing around with the dehydrated water idea - not to sure if I like this kind of look though (looks too drug based for me which was not my intention). Time for a change of ideas... No idea why one bottle is white and the other clear - one is a straight copy of the other. Might be because the white one is near a light source ? I also think the lids could do with a tab to make them easier to get off ? |

| AKA RamPackWobble ![]() | Still plodding along - here is todays effort. Actually I am pleased with this, I know the proportions don't look right and I gave up on texturing it (for now...) but it is recognisable (it's a chair, just in case it isn't recognisable) and just about finished ![]() Took about an hour and a half - which is pushing my attention span to breaking point ![]() The cushion was the main reason for starting this - it is just a subdivided cube with every other top vertex pulled down to give it its bumpy look. Each pulled down vertex was then bevelled and extruded up/out to make the buttons. Now I must find out how to add extra edges between two vertices - or even better to be able to add edges to a face at the same time as adding vertices. I am sure modo can do it, I just can't find it .... I might even have to read the manual ? |

| AKA RamPackWobble ![]() | Texturing went faster than I thought - I split the model up into parts eg left leg front, cushion, etc and then threw textures at them. Not too happy with the cushion - I wanted to add a bump to make it look like leather.... Last edited by are : 7th November 2007 at 16:18. Reason: spelling |

| proud to be a nurb ![]() | Looking good so far, are! Very nice and clean modeling on this chair. But the chair materials look a bit shiny to me. Experiment with some of these ideas:

| AKA RamPackWobble ![]() | ott ? Had a couple of idears I wanted to try out - a weave effect and a turned wood effect (even thought I've not textured it to wood) I'm happy with the general weave effect although I guess I should of taken it over the top of the stool rather than buried it into the frame ? The turned wood needs some another coat of thinking about ![]() |

| AKA RamPackWobble ![]() | started playing around to try and get the twisted wood looking better but got slightly off track glowing liquid in tubes ? edit strange - when I saved the picture from modo as a bmp the clear tube got a speckled effect but saved as tif it came out correct - something elso for me to learn about I guess.... |

Agree it looks better, just a small critique (been the son of a carpenter) the back piece will break really easy due to the weakness in the middle part, by carving it so thin it has not really strong support.

| AKA RamPackWobble ![]() | looking like the modo version is still going to be a while.....but I am still hopefull. In another post there was talk on how to make Indys whip - which has set me off playing again. Learnt a lot from this one - using falloffs and the uv window (and falloffs in the uv window !) The problem was to get the weave (?) to get smaller as you go towards the thin end of the whip. Can't work out how to make it lie flat on a table yet....but I am sure with a bit more practice I will get there. |

| AKA RamPackWobble ![]() | Another try then. Found out how to get it flat on the ground ![]() Rendered in carrara as my modo skills are still sadly lacking....I really need to learn about its materials. edit - A very simple model with a displacement map for the weave.
