nice nate! I'm imagining he's running out the door of a brothel, with a small army of ladies chasing him for money...

looks like .22 cal bullet holes on a paper target to me. but size wise in proportion to him, I would think they are more like some sort of small air to surface missiles

very funny Nate

just curious ....
one of my most favorite country rock band is " pure prairie league" ...
and on their most cover albums , we can see an old cowboy, just the way you draw them , Nate...
example,
http://www.amazon.com/Firin-Up-Pure-...583420-2871939

are you the author of these album illustrations ?

@ solt... I wish. I like those album covers. Most of my goofy cowboy things have been on cards and gift stuff published by "Leanin' Tree."

@ rickei... incoming bazooka rounds

in the beginning....

Illustration project - humor piece to accompany a story about rude behavior in public places. I chose a restaurant setting (can't illustrate every possible scenario) - most of these incidents have happened to me in a restaurant at one time or another.... I'm sure there are zillions of possibilities, but I want to keep this simple and legible.

This is my thinking-out-loud doodle and just represents a concept sketch...
Sometimes I show these to clients, depends on if they are already familiar with my work. If not, I need to go to more complete comp art for that kind of presentation.

if it is legal, I may try to post stages of this as it goes to final art. I don't anticipate it being overly complex. I find that often a more serendipitous (is that a word) feel to finished art has more character and carries the "essence" of the message better than tightly noodled meticulous rendering does. If the concept doesn't grab it, all the polish in the world won't make it work.

I have a Wacom tablet (cheap version)--much easier on the arthritus to rub out in PShop than using a real rubber on paper!

AND you don't have to be continually sharpening the pencil!

And, being pressure sensitive--really great.

If I draw on paper, I have to scan the drawing ( = more time)
If I draw on paper, I use tracing paper, move things around a lot to line up stuff.... on the computer, the layers are like tracing paper, i can copy and paste, clone, flip, drag, scale and distort ( = +++ lots more time on paper)
In a word - doing the whole thing on the computer is much faster and much more efficient. Zoom-zoom-zoom (fast and speedy).

Oh... the ctrl-Z is the fastest eraser ever!!

On a rare occasion, while being a couch potato, I have my sketch pad at hand and do some idea scribbles... short notes on paper. I scan these in and develop them into final art on the computer - all for the same reasons mentioned above.

More coming... keep your eye on this thread... same bat-channel... more instalments coming soon!

Blink Unexpected finish...

Client moved deadline up, so rather than a rendered piece, had to wrap it up pdq --- so it is more of a 'toon with flat color. Whatever. I wasn't going to post it but I said I would, so here it is

You guys gettin' to me... soon I will be like that 'wabbit'!

There are no shadows at all in this dinkwad art.
Those are silouttes (can't spell french words) of other noisy people in the background. If I wuz doing shadows, the shapes of the characters would have shading (modeled). Something speedy deadline killed off.

Example in this illustration:

This is a "family" publication... no unborn baby bellies or buttons... nekkid wimmen is ok.

These kind of clients - well what can I say... the left hand and the right hand haven't even met each other... one person told me when it was needed and then later the production folks said no-way - hence rush that doodle along to make the cut (deadline).

Nothing new, believe me. I think we should send a team of mad artists to gaggle them, tar and feather, and other nice things. then give them to the wabbit.
