Tute Movies as MP4s

With the small file size of this format I am surprised it has not become the standard. Are problems involved? If not, would it be practicable for the site to preconvert to this format?

I use QT7-Pro and an h-264 compression, which is great for what it costs, but it seems to crash alot of IE-6 browsers including one of my own. Problem with streaming movies is that browsers are not all alike, even the same ones like IE-6, I guess becuase of different settings mostly, like show movie in browser or launch on desktop etc... Not to mention movie making programs, the free or cheap ones are really a hassle and who wants to drop all that cash on a good one if they're busy using Hex and Carrara?

I don't use this file format (here and at Eovia) because even if h264 is a very good format, it's damn long to compress, you need a strong CPU to read them (think of all users on G4..) and you must need QT7, and not everybody have it..
Sorenson Pro is very good and the file size are just a little bit bigger.

QT7 player is free so no problem. My old G4 play's H264, just not HD.
I have seen worst on old P3 and P4 handeling H264.

Not saying Sorensen is not good, it rocks!

Have just done a "movie" in Carrara5 and saving as an MP4 seems a piece of cake? And FREE!

Cam Studio (Free) can save as MPEG-4--it records as you are working on the screen- WOW simple?

For some things yes, it is very simple. I like the compresion on the quicktimes, but as Thomas pointed out it's not always best because not everyone has the latest and greatest machine with the latest software and even though I have decent equipment, sometimes qt7 crashes IE explorer. I guess Microsoft and Apple do not always work so closely together as their t.v. commercials would suggest. ;)

I don't have Quicktime Pro so it was Carrara which produced the movie file in MP4?
As I said, no cost to produce as did not have to buy any extra stuff to get the end result. QT7 sometimes crashes IE???? --why is it some people have IE problems and I find it perfect allways?

QT7 (necessary to read h264) is only available for MacOS X (bye bye Mac OS 9 users) and Windows 2000/XP (bye bye Windows 95/98/ME users).
