I noticed that too. I figured out how to fix it quick...

1. From the top view box select all the vertices's on the edge of both halves...
2. Using the universal manipulator select the size axis X.. if appropriate.
3. Adjust the X size until points are close.
4. Average weld points. Done.

or you can marquee select all the centre points in the front view and set the X axis to 0 in the object proprerties scale dialogue box

here is an attempt this was modeled using CBMP it is a super simple modelor I had to detatch the body and model it separate to import it then I brought them back to blender for rendering however it just keeps crashing. so here is a what I have so far

Why don't you just use the displacement tools in Blender?
