Shade 8.5 and Linux

I was wondering if anybody had successfully used Shade Grid with Linux, using wine or some other way.

I use Shade Std and wouldn't mind using it's network rendering capabilities using an Ubuntu setup.

A full blown Linux port in the future would be great, but I guess that may be too much to hope for.

A Linux port for Shade would certainly rock. I haven't tried network rendering through Linux, maybe somebody else has tried this.

We have Linux version of Shade before (around 6 years ago) and we sold it as a preview kit for Linux user to experience Shade. So we always keep in mind that our codes can be run under other platforms rather than Windows and Mac included our rendering server.

So just in case

Sounds promising.

If you ever want to port Shade 8.5 to linux, I would be the first to put my hand up for testing.

Even if this wouldn't be a great short-term money maker, I think the publicity generated might make it worthwhile.

It's a bit frustrating that such a great app like Shade doesn't really have much of an audience. Shade std is probably the biggest graphics bargain I've ever come across.

Indeed. As it is, all Linux lovers have for real rendering without using Wine is Blender. So there could be a market for Shade under Linux.

Network Render

I would be more interested in a network renderer for Linux than the full app. Actually I would LOVE a network renderer on a small usb drive with a stripped version of Linux. When I have a project I can boot the PC to Linux and network it with my Mac. This way the network box also has no overhead. (nothing else is running but the network drivers, Shade Grid (slave) and the core OS)
