calisto rendering

Hi,i've just been playing around with Shade 8.5 which came free with the Amapi deal here on Polyloop.
I loaded a sample file and tried to render it with Calisto. Then the next message popped up:

CALLISTO plugin 2.1.34.4 for Professional
Rendering library: CALLISTO v2.3.33.2 (2006-02-27)

CALLISTO begin rendering at 11:36:37
Cannot render with this plugin.
CALLISTO end rendering at 11:36:37

Am i doing something wrong or is this Renderer not available in this version.
Mind you i haven't read the manual yet just playing around.
Could someone tell me whats going on.

IMAC G5 OSX

Thanks,Jack

The Shade which was provided with the Amapi deal is not Shade professional (which include Callisto), but Shade Standard.

Thanks Thomas for clearing that up.The E-frontier site was a bit confusing about that and when i saw the Calisto plugin in Shade std. i thought i was lucky.

btw. how much differs Calisto from the standerd render engine, is it faster?

It's horribly fast as compared to path tracing.

But not only that, it is very tweakable.
For example, in photon mapping in Callisto, you only specify how many photons get shot randomly in the scene, independent of anything. Really a hit-and-miss situation. But in Callisto, you specify how many photons per light, if some lights don't need photons, how many indirect and specular bounces per photon, if you want circular, gaussian or etc antialiassing of photon solution, save the photon solution, etc etc

Hi everyone.

I wondered the same thing when I saw Callisto 2 in my Standard version. But I think it is/was left over from the stand alone Callisto you could buy in the Japanese version(e-frontier JP site), ...OR, left over script for upgrading to the Pro version. Maybe future Shade versions will allow that specific upgrade.

Callisto does some fantastic renders though, but a few things; no resume render(but there are workarounds), and Im not sure it works with ShadeGrid(networking renders, correct me if wrong).
