Question 3d problem - can anyone help me?

Hi all
This looks like a great forum. I have a problem - and if anyone could help it would really be great:

I need to make (convert?) a NURBS from a high poly figure made with Maya. I am no 3d modeller myself (I make PC games ) - but the guy who made the 3d model has left me with the problem.
The 3d model of the chararcter needs to become a plastic model (for putting money in). The final product should be usable as a parasolid (file extensions would be something like .stp or .igs)
Would anyone here be able to help me with this?

Best regards

Mmm doesn't make much sense. Nurbs are not bases in polygons, and IGES is sort of based on nurbs, so this should not involve any mesh editing at all, just saving into a different file format (if I understood correctly, that is).

However, I have no idea what file formats maya can export to that would not convert the nurbs into polygons. If maya can make obj files that recognize the nurbs data (which not all programs do, but obj comes from wavefront, one of the original developers of Maya, so it just might), you could read that obj into amapi (which recognizes this information), and from there export as either step or iges.
Amapi6 is downloadable from here in the forum, btw, so you could do this yourself, in case the maya obj supports the nurbs information...

But then again, can you read the maya file?

You can also try polytrans, I think there is a trial version, and it has lots of file formats it can recognize. I don't remember if it has a functional trial version though...

Amapi 7.52 can convert a polygon mesh in nurbs. But it's necessary to have a good topology without too much polys. You can try with the trial version (smooth tool) then export .iges

Pierre Yves gave the good answer in my opinion: import your polymesh in Amapi and apply a NURBS smoothing (well, it depends of your original mesh which comes from Maya. Then, export it in STEP or IGES.
