Yet Another Newbie.

Hi, my name is Darwin Grigg, and I am (still) a newbie. I'm not sure how much contribution a newbie makes, other than ask a lot of questions. My first exposure to 3D graphics was seeing a Star Trek Enterprise being rendered on an IBM XT when I wandered into a computer shop to see if I could get a printer repaired for the C-64 I'd just purchased (used). The shop owner said the render had been going for six hours, and by the next day it would probably be done. Lots of time has flown since then...I started fooling with 3D graphics when I upgraded to an Amiga 2000. However, when I was finally forced to get a PC, I simultaneously found the world of paper modelling, which took me down the road of 2D digital graphics (though the original fascination has continued through regular purchase of British disk mags such as Computer Arts and internet search/download for the most recent (usually free) 3D software). My paper modeling interest has finally gotten me back to the 3D graphics world, now that I'm at a point I want to start creating my own designs rather than redrawing someone else's, and am on the verge of having sufficient resource (both time and money....retirement is finally getting close enough it's not just a year on the calendar) to do more than sit on the sidelines and say "wow, wish I could do that."
