| Vertex ![]() | A new virgin on te block Hello, I'm posting a new 'thread', aldough I was asked to send a 'first post'. But I can't seem to find why and how I should do the latter using this site... ![]() In print I'm a pro, in 3D a virgin . I got Carrara 5 pro for free through an issue of 3D World, but that's as far as I got.I hope somebody can tell me what the not-to-expensive, not-to-difficult entrance way into 3D can be. My final goal in 3D (amongst others): designing originals in 3D for the semi-pro production (through rapid prototyping) of eg. historic buildings in n-scale... probably a long way still to go ! |

| proud to be a nurb ![]() | Welcome to Polyloop. I think you already found one of the least expensive 3D program around. You can do a LOT of stuff in Carrara, but one area where it is not so strong is modeling. So if you want to explore some other modeling tools, you can try Wings3D (free), Silo ($159), Hexagon (price always changing). Also there are some low-priced CAD apps around such as MoI ($195) and ViaCAD ($69). And don't forget Blender is very powerful and also free, but has a tricky interface. Many other free programs around as well if you have specific needs for them. There is also Houdini Apprentice (free)... As far as being not-too-difficult, that i can't say. Learning 3D is like going into the rabbithole. No matter what you learn, there is always more to learn. And it's always more difficult than what you already know... jonah |
