Hello all, I've been a lurker around Polyloop for a while now. Figured since some of my interests have changed lately it was time to get acquainted. My "graphics" training goes back to 1983 when I was creating animations on the TRS-90 Model II computers using black and white graphics at 80x20 resolution. I wanted to study computer graphics programming in college, but my Dad convinced me that being a "computer artist" would be a waste of time and money. So I studied mathematical and scientific programming instead. However I managed to work in a few art and graphics classes in there anyway. Wrote a VERY trivial raytracer and a tree generation program.Leaving college I worked for a large defense contractor writing software to analyze satellite imagery. I'd say more about that, but then I'd have to kill you all. ![]() My story then takes a 12 year hiatus ... I moved away from the stuff I enjoyed to things that made more money. Worked as a computer consultant doing everything from custom programming in VB to SQL Server DBA work to eventually doing NOS design and migration work.Along the way I kept up my interest by reading about what the state of the art companies were doing and such. I knew about Pixar well before "Toy Story". In 2006, I was playing some online games and a friend of mine was making these great images of characters and other topics. I talked to her a bit about what she was doing and that led to her pointing me toward DAZ|Studio. Loved getting back into things and since it was "free" ... it seemed like a great deal. Well, that "free" software ended up costing me a few thousand dollars as I've bought tons of content, other software, etc. Earlier this year, I got involved helping out Aery Soul on their website / forums and started talking with them about creating content instead of buying it. Now I'm into a mode where I look at a new outfit and think "You know, with a bit of work, I could MAKE that!" So I'm not working so much on my own pictures and stuff anymore and have been spending more time learning about the modeling end of things. Apart from graphics, I've also had hobbies in photography, theater (including set and lighting design) and other topics that seem to help out in my understanding of what's going on inside the software. One of the things I enjoy most about hobbies is helping other folks. I've written a few tutorials that have been posted on DAZ's site and actively participated in some of the forums. My main focus graphics wise at the moment is learning to model, rig, and texture clothing in order to (eventually) become a content merchant. Oh, in case you hadn't noticed by now (and you've actually gotten this far in my intro), I also really enjoy writing. I have a novel about 2/3 completed and several short stories. My website has a few stories around a new theme I'm creating. I blame my lack of brevity on my authorly aspirations. Ok, enough is enough. I'll close this for now and see you all around the forums.

![]() I agree with you. I've often said that one of the little lies that everyone tells is to say "I don't have the time..." Whenever I hear that, I translate it in my head to "It's not a priority for me..." I'm looking forward to getting to know this community and become a contributing member here. -Karl

I've used C5 Std a little bit and am very impressed with the program overall. In fact the first thing I modeled on my own I did in the vertex room. I'm probably one of the few people doing this stuff that feels more comfortable modeling in Carrara than Hexagon. I've been watching the sneak peeks of C6 and see an awful lot of things there to look forward to. Have been sharing some of the sample images and all with my wife so she won't resist so much when I spend the money to upgrade to C6 Pro. Thanks again for the welcome and I'll see you around the forums.
