I am happy with my cost savings and the PDF manual. Please don't change a thing Eovia. I like my money in my pocket and the ability to choose.

Now this is my last posting on this issue. I will agree with Ringo, this type of discussion will get you nowhere because there is no definitive answer. And Eovia Bob, thank you for your piece about the cost of the manual and the lowered upgrade costs. And in my last breath, I will say that I am very pleased with version 5. I think it has many excellent enhancements and I sincerely appreciate what the guys at Eovia have done to keep this program accessible to the financially strapped artists of the world.

I am beginning to wish I hadn't begun this thread. I think a lot of people are getting angry. I only hope that the members of Eovia3D.net do not see me as a trouble maker. I love this site.

Hey, Thomas, can you pull this thread?

I just wanted to add, that I am happy too, about the cost savings and the PDF manual. I really hope that Eovia will not change it.

Yes, the cost saving with the pdf manual is a good thing. And having the printed manual available for the people that want one is also a fantastic thing. Everyone should be happy now.

Ok, I live with getting the printed book separatelly. If Eovia is thinking about saving us money, kudos for them. Furthermore, I hope C6 is shipped directly in the jewel box instead of that additional big cardboard box that makes no sence now that they don't ship the book. The printed material that comes with it can be made to fit perfectly in the jewel box, or loose in the package.

mmmmm....would that be another $50.00 less for C6? (for features at a lower price?)

Mark me down as another person who bought boxed for a manual.

I knew by the time I did checkout three days ago that there was no manual, but only because it said so on the order page.

I did also want to buy it for the actual CD - as I have had burned CDs go bad on me after a few years.

It did come with a little cardstock keyboard shortcuts foldout, but the missing manual is a notable let down for a newbie.

PDF manuals are hard to read when the app is filling your screen.

I'll be ordering a manual at some point in the near future now, and that might push back the date at which I buy transposer...

I definitely thought a manual would be in the box, but I suppose I should have read the fine print. I have been struggling to learn Carrara since version 3. I have this mental block with 3D apps, I suppose, so to someone like me (and all newcomers to 3D Land) training is very important. I'm glad to see Eovia has started up Eovia3D.net, and that new tutorials are (finally!) appearing. As others have noted, training and documentation does seem to get short shrift at Eovia, which is short sighted, I think. The easier it is to learn a complex product, the more converts you'll acquire, it seems to me. Look at Worldbuilder, a rather obscure app, that has a ton of video material included in the box (with the printed manual). On the other hand, Microsoft sells its Office 2003 Publisher for $200+ with no manual available at any price! Not even a PDF file! It's all in the help system. I had to buy a manual from a 3rd party.

All that said, I think it's a good idea to make the manual an optional item, to reduce costs. I couldn't find it on the website, though (the printed insert says it's an Add-on, so that's where I've been looking...daily...for it to appear, only to find it's on the main product ordering page:. I really can't get started until that manual is in front of me. It's how I learned Assembler and COBOL; old habits die hard.
