What to do with the gallery?

Good question, no?

It seems that a lot of you (me included..) don't take care of the gallery and visit it time to time...

I think that it's time to go back to something more simple and use only the forum for that. Then it means the end of the gallery.

Do you think its a good idea to use only the forum and no more the gallery?

I don't use it at all since two years almost, the wip forum is good enough for me. You can always search for a users threads to see their wips.

Well, my experiments are not good enough for the gallery anyway - that will take some (read: lots of) time....! :-)

I think (for most people) that a WIP discussion is more interesting than viewing a gallery. And many people already have their own website and gallery anyway. So it doesn't bother me if the gallery is removed. I never look there anyway. Please keep the banner images though, it's always good to see new images on the homepage...

Well, I liked the galleries. I used to look at the latest stuff a lot. But I noticed there were less and less people posting comments so I kinda gave up

I think having the image hosting is ok but I would like to have a place to put a bit of description with the image. That way people can browse through the images like a gallery.

Anyone else like this idea?

I agree - please keep the banner images.

Just thought of something else

Is it possible to have a latest images line on the front page? Like ZBrush central has?

I always click on the interesting images to get to the threads. THis would be as well as the 'top row' banner images.

Yes, gallery needs to go, definitely waste of space on the server (don't wanna even talk about peeps who just sign up for membership here to use it, never made one single post in forums).

However, Hall of Fame is a good feature in my opinion, needs to be taken care of and updated occasionally (looks pretty dead to me now), but I reckon, if there is no galleries that would not be a big problem

kill the gallery. I never look at it.
I had much rather watch the WIP's

plus we have images in the gallery from people who have never posed on the forum.

i would suggest a bigger hall of fame, and a personal gallery accessible in the profile (below the name in the posts) like the "my photos" but restricted to finish work, as currently in that space it's useful to store misc images !

EDIT : otherwise i would restrict the gallery to active forum members only, something like 50 messages + to be allowed to post (i don't now if it's technically feasible)...
