Diary Forum Creation : yes or no?

Hi all!

I was thinking of a new section for Polyloop and I want your feedback on that. We already discuss of it with all the moderators ;)

This section will be call "Diary" (or creative diary or something similar), and each member will be able to post a personal thread, where he/she will be able to post all his/her various creations which are not a "finished work" or "work in progress". In this personal thread, you can include rendering tests, modeling tests, some photos shoots, why not real scuplting samples.
Well, a kind of perpetual and unclosed thread with a lot of various stuff

I was thinking about that, because currently, I do a lot of tests under Modo, XSI, doing some phtos shoots and various 2D stuff, as 3D modeling tests, and I don't know where to post it. It's not enough to open a WIP (because it's only tests) and it's not a finished work.

Then, what is your opinion? Do you think it's a good idea? You can vote and give your answer

Well, Thomas, you can start the thread now and we'll follow suit. Do you have enough space in your server? You have seen my WIPs. There will never be a FINISHED project for me. Everything will always be tests.

Yes, no problems with the space (I have around 180 Gb free on the server )
I most of the time unfinish my WIP too, but in my mind, their is some difference between a set of tests of various media (3D, 2D, sketchs, modeling, etc) and and an unfinished work for various reasons

you got my vote Thomas
i edited your post sorry bout that
typos only not text
i liked this idea when you first proposed it.
A Diary of a build or animation or render would be a huge benifit to the community.
to be clear this is a non app specific forum we are discussing.
this is not a wip gallery.
its a Diary of your build and render or animamtion.
a personal log if you will

regards

stu

Appreciate clarifying that, Stu. Subd modeling or NURBS are universal principles in my book. Apps after all are just different brands with the same utility.

Looking forward to seeing diaries of talented folks here. I'm sure I could learn a thing or two.

I think it would be great for longer walk-thru's like you have posted in the past. It would help those new to the medium certainly.

Just to add something: Perhaps one thread by user can be complex to handle for the readers, then, I think it can be a good idea to open a thread for each category, like Modeling - rendering - animation - photos, etc.
The only thing we (the moderators) will have to do is to define these categories.

maybe closing the whole thread is not a good idea, we could be in a discussion after all and then "POOF" it is gone. But would be a good idea that any post dated prior to a set # of days (maybe 60 days?) will be deleted. Like an automatic trimming, older posts are progressively deleted. Once all posts are deleted (inactive thread) then the entire thread is deleted...

A practice section is a good idea, "This is what I did today" kind of thing, not a blog or WIP or diary, but more like doodles.

I can't set the forum to do that. By the way, I can create archives.
But I have a lot of space on the server, and you can always useing the search in a thread.

Something which can be good is to creating, for each user thread, a kind of table of content which forward to the good new permalink in the thread for a new set of test?

This sounds good. i do lots, of doodles(2D and 3D), in between client meetings, or while waiting for a phone call, etc. I have no intention of really finishing them, but would appreciate some feedback on how do do it better next time.
this could be a nice addition to the forums!
