Why closed/locked

In the Carrara section there is a thread = "Any news on Carrara 6" that has been closed. There was no comment about why it was closed and I see nothing there that seems to violate any forum rules. The questions seemed honest, straightforward and there was no apparent flaming.

Carrara is a legitimate forum here, and it would seem that questions about its current status are innocent enough.

Of course Polyloop can do whatever it wants with this forum, but I was just curious why this subject is not allowed?

I think that the main goal was to stop defamating DAZ about the future of C-6.

Yes. It's Thommas' own site and he now works for a Carrara competitor.

I don't think that's the reason.

Thomas made it crystal clear that he didn't want speculative threads about Hexagon in these forums because they always cause trouble. I guess the same thing now applies to Carrara too.

I remember he said it's because as a former evoia developer the flames about bugs, features etc. were insulting, not because he's trying to nobble the competition, which is fair enough.

There are threads on the daz forum that discuss these topics ad-nauseum.

... if that's the case why even have a Carrara, Hexagon, Silo, etc. section in the forums... and the ones that say to discuss other software. Just about any would be competitive.

It is discussed "ad-nauseum" at Daz... which is why it may get some legitimate answers here where the real 3D modelers/artists hang out - "real" referring to those who choose to make their own content for the most part rather than assembling premade models... in some ways that can be thought of as someone who pasted a bunch of clip-art together and says it is art... maybe it is, but a different sort than what is seen here. (Oops... I already feel the heat of the flames coming for that )

No biggie... just struck me as sort of odd... I don't really think there is an answer to what is happening with those programs, so all that can be had is guesswork and gossip. I suppose that creates an environment ripe for bickering and flaming.... too bad because they are both unique applications.

Carrara 6 has already been officially announced and apparently there has been activity in the bug tracker lately.

Daz's forums are a mess, so I can see why you missed this.

i think Thomas was very lenient for a long time, and allowed people the freedom to voice their disconcerns about DAZ. But a few people proved they could not act mature enough to be granted such freedoms. Generally speaking, i am against this type of censoring. But in this case, i think Polyloop's moderators are doing the right thing. If anybody wants to rant, they are free to start their own blog elsewhere. Let's all have fun and learn how to improve our 3D skills...

Would you allow customers to defame a competitor on your own web site?

That's pretty much it Shorty, the speculation threads (I'm guilty too btw) are just sickening after awhile... Daz will be fine, Carrara and Hex will be fine and E-Frontier will be fine and we'll all be fine. I've heard through the grapevine that Hex is getting some good work done on it and I'm sure C6 will be a big hit too. I don't know any specifics anymore than anyone else, but the former-Eovia devs on both sides of the ocean are quality guys and they'll get the job done right when the time comes. I've never had any real doubts..

Nate, no problems telling the truth, two different kinds of user bases colliding and two different companies and in all truth the last year or so could have been a lot uglier. I'm actually glad its been relatively quiet on that front and the 3d images are pouring in the wps section. Whaddya know, we ain't so bad collectively after all.

P.S. What got closed? I haven't seen a thread locked in a couple months now..?
Maybe I missed something..

I closed the thread because ANY C6/H3 finish as flaming war between pro/cons DAZ. I'm (and not only me) pissed by this. The question was raised and answered as it can be, so to avoid further problem i close it, and i (or Thomas or other modos) will do it again if needed i believe.

as Pete said the question was answered then the thread started down the flame road so was closed.
hope this answers your question Nate.

make some models , post Wips ,ask modeling questions or disscuss software, these are all ok.
if you want to bitch or flame go elsewhere.

thats for everyone btw not aimed at you Nate.

Great.
Where did you see this announcement?
I went to the Daz main site and all they have there is Carrara 5.1 which I already have....
No mention of 6 on that site that I could find.

thanks for the tip

This is an honest question... not dumping on anybody.
I'm a great admirer and daily user of Carrara regardless of who owns it or what it is called. Just want to be sure I don't miss the next installment.

I totally agree with Pete's decision and I hope they do close such threads.

Is there any place to get a real and authentic heads-up about the release of Carrara 6? If transient is right, it hasn't been mentioned at the maker's site.

That other forum is apparently not the place, so I had hopes that it would be announced here - info you can count on is usually available at PolyLoop.

Suggestion:
Put the announcement (real and authentic) of Carrara 6 release in the News section of PolyLoop - and lock that thread.

From here on, I will only look at what is being modeled at PolyLoop, ask questions about that and post what I do. No talk about other software.
This is the best part about PolyLoop anyway...

Nate > I use Hexagon/Lightwave and maybe later other software, and YES one can talk of all the software on this forum... Carrara and Hexagon are a special case because of history, are it pops up frustation and anger everytime people are talking about their future for good or bad reasons.

So please, keep on talking of software, like Modo you're using for example. We (modos) have just to be careful about C6/H3 IMHO to avoid fights we saw in the past, which does not mean that people cannot talk about those product...

we know;) , you got an honest answer.

for the record all Moderators here and pretty much anywhere else Volunteer their time to help others.
we do this by answering questions and solving problems, be they hardware, software or technical problems or problems regarding modeling technique, we also post tutorials to help guide those new to the applications or those in the intermediate stage.
there are a bunch of people whos primary goal is to disrupt forums, these are known as Trolls, they post nothing but complaints and speculation, hard to believe i know.
they live to argue and fight before they get banned, they move from site to site.
they post no images only complaints, they are a pain in the ass and a waste of time for me and most members.

if anyone has a problem with a software developer please feel free to take it up with them at a site of their choice.
just so you know we have a zero tolerance on software bashing here, we dont care who made it
