That's right IT'S FREE. DAZ seems to have listened to someone's suggestion.

Looks like they are trying to take the game platform approach. Produce a product. Put it out there at a net loss and then reap the benefits from accessories that people buy to supplement it.

My 2 cents,

Now its time for the daz to understand if bryce have a future.
"OK, I give the version 5. If many people pay for the 5.5 upgrade exist an interest for this software and I continuos the development, if not patience... now I have carrara"
This is my opinion

Now they are offering Bryce 5.5 for $19.95!!!

Does this mean Bryce v6.0 is just around the corner?

I'm a long time Bryce user back when it was just called "Bryce" and owned by Metacreations.

I just discovered Carrara and although I'm not going to abandon Bryce all together. Carrara is going to be main 3D Application.

Yeah right, for all I care. Hexagon 2 was almost given away for free. Bryce is nothing in comparison.

Preordering is no longer in my vocabulary after that Great Hex 2 Give Away Debacle. Unless C6 is offered for $1.99 to loyal Eovians like me.

Terragen

Have any of you used Terragen? It's another great little terrain generator. http://www.planetside.co.uk/

I'm a visual type of guy and I find Terragen like POV beyond my scope of knowledge and no real desire to spend time to learn.

I just discovered Carrara and I'm in love with it. For the first time I can actually create something that I have visualized in my head.

To bad Bryce can't export trees though, that would be sweet.

Man I've tried Bryce several times over the years (yes, even back when they were metacreations) and I just can't get hooked on it. I DL this free 5 version but dumped it. I bought Vue Easel earlier and like the results more.
I'm more of a tinkerer and I like to see what an app will do straight out of the box. IMHO, Easel tops Bryce.

Now Easel vs Carrrara for landscapes? This would be a good separate thread....

Well... The free version is a lite version. Thats where they try to hook you into the 5.5 for $19.
Yes they are comming out with Bryce6 soon.

Ps.
There is a way to export and import trees and content between Daz studio and Bryce5
