Eovia did the same before on chat with C5 : they didin't like to spread informations about new features... maybe they are afraid that people knowing what is in the soft or what is not could move to the competition even before the soft is released ???? Also talking about ehancements and new features has a bad effect on the current selling version, because obviously it highlights what could be considered as "weaknesses"... I.e if someone tells you that the rendering speed will increase by 3 in C6, so you might think that C5 rendering is slow... If you own the soft you don't care, but for a new potential customer this can be a problem, and you can loose a sell Just my 2 cents...

I hear what you're saying, Pete. But the most important thing is keeping the customers you already have. A lost customer almost never returns. And by not letting us know the future of Carrara, some people may start to look elsewhere. We already know the weaknesses of any programs that we use. We don't really need them pointed out to us... If i was a prospective new buyer, i might jump on C5 now if i know what features are coming in C6. Otherwise, i'd look elsewhere for the features that i need... That being said, i think C6 will be a very strong app. |

Well, I thought it was a good chat because it showed some of the realities for persons in Daz, and some of those who are their customers. Not all of each, but some dialog, which can be re-read for understanding. Pete I think here explains some of the reasoning for quietness on the development and marketing side; and also there are probably patterns which are strictly cultural. Taking these things into consideration is why I think they can take advantage actually of the situation with Hexagon, to build their situation. Since the issue at present with Hex is finishing version 2, making the features work fully and consistently, then there should be no worry about communicating this part. And the features of Hex are its great advantage. By simply saying what they are fixing as they do so, they can communicate and gain a lot of position with customers, still without disclosing anything about release schedules until they are ready to. In fact, doing so would take the pressure off, and thus likely gain more satisfaction for everyone. There are other ways this 'one thing in public at a time' way could be used, I think, but nice to see first if present assumptions would turn out well. Kind regards, Narration |

Hi XPeteX - I mean jbshorty ;) - looks like we crossed message. I agree that C6 is likely to be strong - that's the one they know best, and important for the premade content lines. I thought to pick up a 'true' feeling that they want to do well with Hexagon also, and so some suggestion how answers could come, that you point out very well here the need for. Anyway, it's what we can do, make suggestions, and with some idea that they really would like to listen. And these things take a little time. I'm sure what you say is part of what really helps. |
