Nuke 3dXtract Officially Goes Cold.

3dXtract Officially Goes Cold.
We will reopen if DAZ3D gets it together.

I know I expressed a somewhat positive attitude in previous postings, but
this has gone too far. I encourage everyone to write DAZ and complain
LOUDLY. I would love to support these great programs and have stood behind
them a lot, but we need to stop sometime and ask ourselves something...

What is the question?
Please respond LOUDLY...

??? illuminate me ???

OK Hex has been thrown on the market before to be decently stable, there are not forecasts for the future development of Carrara and Hex ... but ...

Why are you so "angry"?

I have been using Carrara and Hexagon for two years, I would be sorry if they had to disappear from the market, but I have learned a lot and I can quietly use other tools...

... Is it also true that I am not a professional and I have different needs from who "earns the bread" whit 3D, but what suggest you to do? Let us know ...

Regards

But...I've been working on a View-Master for your contest that is going on right now. Was going to put the finishing touches on it today. The contest ends tommorow, you couldn't wait till after to close up shop??

Is there an email I can send it to? Will it be judged? Will there still be a prize?

On another note. I am very sorry to see you go. I always enjoyed your ezine. I truly do hope whatever happened gets better and you will return shortly.

Dude:
Can you be more specific about why the shutdown.
Your site has been a valuable resource to many Eovia product users.
Please share the details.

I hope Carl will decide to stay around after all this shakes out. I have no doubt that tha Mac installer problem will be fixed soon. Everyone has been so busy this year with new things, I have beta-tested 4 different programs and written a chapter in the book. I was thinking the other day that once Hex2 shakes off the newness, that we could finally get back to concentrating on artwork and maybe some tutorials for 3DXtract. Whatever you decide Carl, thanks for all the hard work and great output, hope to see more.

Mr. Desmond,

I have purchased all your issues and found them quite helpful. But it's a lot of work for you and it seems that recently few are interested in submitting tutorials for the magazine. Although I will miss 3DXtract it's probably just as good a time as any to wind it down.

As for Hexagon the patch seems to make things worse for me but I'm sure they'll eventually get it right. I've read several comments where people have bragged that Eovia has never missed a deadline. This is one that should have been missed.

For now the best thing I can say about Hexagon is that I'm glad I have Silo. I've deleted Hexagon from my system. When the final patches are complete I'll look at it again... or maybe not. At least $32 is an easy throw away.

I hope nobody takes these remarks to indicate I am upset or bitter. Sometimes you win, sometimes you don't. Life goes on.

Since CDesmond hasn't come back to post some specifics, so let's just speculate. Is he talking about Hexagon 2 being released too soon? Is it about selling Hexagon 2 for $1.99? What is it?

Is it about the buyout? Perhaps. I know for one thing that 3dXtract had always applauded Eovia the company for having great products such as Carrara, Amapi and Hexagon. Now, Eovia will soon be non existent. Amapi will no longer be associated with Carrara and Hexagon. Hmmm... I think I know what he means.

Wow! You leave for a couple of days and the world changes on you!

Hey Carl, can you shed some light on the cause or situation you're dealing with? I too have supported and appreciated you magazine. I also appreciated your website. Over the years you have supplied such a great resource for us Eovia users. I'm sorry that you have such a strong feeling about these current events.

Speculate mode on.

Carl works with a Mac, the Mac 2.0 version sucks, 2.01 sucks even more.
He (and I) preordered $99 ex. vat. and now we can beta test the app. while having payed. O_O

For all off you not working on a Mac, you don't feel the pain and your version is useable so Carl must be complaining for nothing.

Speculate mode off.

Reality Mode on:

No need to speculate. I dont use Hexagon, nor am I on a Mac. However that does not mean that I or anyone else not using Hexagon on a Mac think that Carl is complaining for nothing. I am quite sure that Carl and others have and are having valid issues, that is not questioned.

The problem lies in the cryptic post. If someone wants to complain about something, it would be nice to actually describe the problem. That way, those who arent having the problem (PC users) know exactly why a person is unhappy.

Encouraging "everyone" to write DAZ and complain without providing a reason is quite curious. What are we to complain about? That Carl is going to discontinue 3DXtract? Or that there is something wrong with Hexagon? Again, with no information in the original post how can anyone else know "why" we should be complaining.

I do not doubt that Carl is having problems with the latest version, nor anyone else with the Mac version at this point. However, it isnt constructive to make a post or a "scare" tactic like this without providing some insight as to why.

Considering that Carl made a similiar post about discontinuing 3DXtract when the DAZ announcement was initially made, the need for clarification is even more important. At that point he cited the fact that he was not happy with the DAZ aquisition. Understandable to a degree, it caught a lot of people off guard.

Fast forward to now. Carl posts on this board and on the Carrara Yahoo Group that he is discontinuing 3DXtract yet again. However, he gives no reason other than DAZ has to get it together. Get what together? Again, without some information it is hard to understand. I knew what he was concerned about because of the post on the Carrara forum, but not everyone subscribes to that group.

Reality Mode off:

As a fellow long time Mac user, I feel Carl's pain. I think where he is coming from (about DAZ) is that Hex2 is a piece of junk on the Mac right now. His e-zine has been a huge boost to Eovia products over the years and he has done nothing but good for the Carrara and Hex community.

I too pre-ordered hex2 with great anticipation of the usual quality product that Eovia delivers to its customers. When the DAZ buyout came what we got was something rushed out the door and incomplete. Knowing that DAZ users were getting hex2 even before loyal pre-order customers (due to server problems in France) and eventually downloading a very buggy software (after all these happy DAZ users who paid next to nothing for it) probably really made Carl really mad. I know I was.

I converted that anger into something practical. Once I finally got my pre-order copy I saw what we got looked like an alpha (not even a beta), I emailed Bob and asked for a refund of my $99.00. They cheerfully refunded my money. As a DAZ platinum club member I bought hex2 for $1.99. Less than $2.00 is fine for a buggy piece of software. I suggest you do the same thing Carl. But I understand if you are not already a DAZ member, then there is no deal for you. Hopefully, the real bugs will be gone by hex 2.1.

I understand Carl's anger. On the Mac, Hex2 is spectacularly buggy. Carl is a Mac user who has done great PR and goodwill for Eovia. Now DAZ gets to cash in on all that free goodwill and they reward him with the usual Mac user shaft. I will say that DAZ is pretty good about supporting Mac users, and they usually respond with good fixes. I think all this buyout happened way too fast and hex2 just wasn't ready yet.

I hope Carl will read this and get his money back. I hope he will re-start his e-zine with or without DAZ's backing. I know as a long time Carrara user, I would be happy to write a tutorial or two.

Scott
