Ok to comment here? How could I possibly be first? What I want to know is... Will we all have to go Platinum Club memberships just to bend an ear now? Or will Eovia people still be around to hear us? Given all the complaints I hear about Daz over the handling of Bryce... do I need to dust off my copy of Vue again? |

The PRO community is going to have big laughs with this one. The respect that Carrara And Hexagon were finally getting, will be out the door. Very sad!

Thats one of the biggest problems with DAZ, they are not a forward thinking company. Look what they did with Bryce... made a plugin for it so you could use thier premade content then slap a .5 on the end of it. All I see is DAZ making it so it can export Bryce and Poser standard formats then sticking it up on the shelf to collect dust with Bryce. One person here said it best... Eovia finaly made it to a reputable pro status of 3D creation back down to a monkey content creation company. DAZ Carrara and DAZ Hexagon... makes me want to cry.

Well, I'm not anti-DAZ but what's bad for competition tends to be bad for us. I personally like the Poser/Carrara combination and I guess that is (at least, in the long term) now threatened. Big questions are left for the future of Bryce also. We just have to see how much independence the Eovia team is given.

| Why did Eovia sell? and why "DAZ"? Quote:

When DAZ bought Bryce, I was upset by what they did to it (or more accurately, what they didn't do FOR it). What a shame! Bryce was a very good program in its day and now it has fallen behind and has long started showing its age. Based on the history of "DAZ Productions, Inc.", no matter how well Carrara and Hexagon evolove, if these programs are associated with too much of the "DAZ" image / reputation, it won't just be the "pro" users turning away from these great products -- they will be viewed as bargain basemenet "wannabees" (IMHO). In my opinion, if DAZ were smart, they would allow the "Eovia" image / reputation to stand as it is and let the Carrara and Hexagon teams have a big say in the future of these programs -- feature set, upgrade schedule, marketing, pricing, etc. I would think someone at Eovia knew about this before Carrara 5 was released. Last year, when I first read about ALL the NEW features of Carrara 5, I thought this was a very large number of new items to put into an upgrade -- even a whole-number (from "4" to "5") upgrade. Another big facet to this announcement is... Why did Eovia sell-out? If both companies were privately held and it "looked" like Carrara and especially Hexagon were selling well, WHY did Eovia sell? If they needed the money, why didn't they hold out for a more reputable company? or at least one which had the same business strategy and product nurturing as they have been showing over the last few years? It looks like "only time will tell" but it will be very frustrating in the meantime.

"DAZ" is a well-known brand name in the UK ... for soap powder. Check out: http://www.dazwhite.co.uk/index.html to get a flavour of its 'brand values'. As the site says: "Daz has been delivering great family laundry results for over 50 years!"
