Someone sounds really grumpy... Strength in numbers... If you dont like to use what everyone else is using, you can switch to something like Animation Master or Blender. C'mon dude, its really great that awesome software is finally affordable. How can you be mad at that? Unless youre the stiff type that think programs should cost hundreds of dollars to keep "potential competion" away. Geesh, I cant believe you guys are still around :P Brycers went thru the same thing a few years ago, but the community is still strong, and it wasnt all that bad... Things are different now too, youll see... Just give it some time, it wont be so tuff. You have to think of it from their side too, you cant let the cat out the bag too early, they have to think professionally too. How would you have handled the announcement if you were Daz?!? What is it that youre really mad at???

Corndog is Corndog. I'm not Corndog.

Good luck.

I missed it. All I see is how you state you didnt like the way it was handled... And you avoided the question of what youre really mad at... I mean what are you "really" mad at?!? The low cost of Hex 2? All the new users? Or are you mad at Daz for selling 3d presets to the 3d community? Thats not a real reason to be mad, thats just silly :P

I came to grips w/ what was bothering me about Daz (and it was really already posted), but Im not getting anything solid from you.

Not that it matters of course...

And if Blender floats your boat, more power to you and good luck, LOL!!!

LOL! Am I the only one here old enough to remember when new point versions of software came out every 3 to 5 years or so? And they weren't public betas? (it was universal in the 80s but still happens now). Now that we are on internet time, 6 months between point releases is expected and entirely unrealistic. No offense, but just wanted to inject a little history into the discussion of timelines.

Personally, to me, the DAZ takeover of Eovia makes sense: their core principle of making 3D easy and inexpensive is the same, DAZ has cash and a large user base of people interested in 3D without the time for or the committment to large expensive 3D apps, Eovia needs money to continue to develop and to survive the current and future consolidation in the 3D marketplace, and Carrara has the shallowest learning curve of any of the general 3D apps out there. Win-win really. Go Team GO! LOL!

The way things were handled as in the transition announcement etc was terrible.
As for doubling the community.. I don't want 10 million members and I do not like to use what everyone else is using
I'm with you on sharing with 10 million other people feeling. I tend to root for the underdog too, use what is less used but still a gem, avoid the madding crowds that drive you nuts.... (I miss OS/2! Well mostly the workplace shell... still the best UI ever)

But then there is the issue of critical mass. No matter what you like, if it doesn't have a large enough audience to sustain it, you will eventually be singing its eulogies as you have to move on to something else. Thankfully, the internet makes it much easier for apps (or movies, books etc.. any creation) to find their tiny niche audience. Given development costs though, you need a sizeable audience of upgraders to keep app development going.

Besides, increasing the community makes ancillary products like manuals, training DVD's, premade content and all that more economically viable. More plugins! More shaders! An Art of Carrara book..?
