Open GL 40% slower on OSX.4 than Windows XP

Source from XLR8yourmac.com

Now that Mactel can boot on Windows or OSX, some users have been tested several software or benchmarks between both OS.

A reader from XLR8yourmac.com did a Cinebench (3D benchmark based on Cinema4D) on his MacBookPro and the openGL result gave a difference of 40% between OSX and Windows, the "PC" OS was the faster.

Apple have some improvments to do on its openGL stuff, as video card drivers

Yes, it is true, was already famous that the implementazioni of Open GL in
MacOS X was slower.
Now it is time for the Apple to fix this thing

One curiosity, cinebench is in UB or works under rosetta?

The bigger question is also, is this Cinebench app / test running native under the Intel Mac?? If it's running under Rosetta, well, then that explains the speed difference.

So far the Intel-native apps (Universal apps) FLY under the new Intel Macs. And we don't even have a true dual-processor to play with yet.

The latest Cinebench 9.5 is Universal and OS X's OpenGL looks really good according to Rob's test in the link I gave.

How long will it be for a Universal Carrara, do you think?

Interesting, but.. I'm confused. What was Thomas' link (40% slower) all about then?

Not sure about a Universal version for Carrara, my guess is version 6 next year. Although (and I'm assuming this won't change..), I was told that a not-so-far-away update to Hexagon 2 would make it a Universal Binary app, which is promising.

It's going to be a fair amount of time before I can move to an Intel Mac though, lots of software would need to go Universal first.

Wow it's really refreshing to step away from the DAZ melee.. over at Yahoo.. .
