An In-Depth Review Of Carrara 5 Pro

I just finished a review of Carrara 5 Pro for our local Macintosh user's group M.A.C.S. -- Macintosh Asheville Computer Society. It doesn't cover ALL the features this great program offers. Instead, I wanted to first introduce anyone who has never used a 3D program to this fascinating world. (This part will be boring to those of you on this forum.)

Following that section, I go into detail about how I created various objects and scenes in Carrara 5 Pro. I provide a few example images and QuickTime movies on some of the more interesting aspects and on some new features. Here are some of my examples:
* A Physics movie.
* A movie of a birdbath spewing birdbaths (copies of itself).
* A very quick movie of a purple robot head which shows "Anisotropic Lighting".
* A still image of the new Volumetric Cloud object. I couldn't resist this. These new clouds are so realistic. (click it for a larger image).
* A still image using the new Surface Replicator -- 10,247 objects in all (click it for a larger image).
* A still image which features 2 of the new Surface Tools: Ruled, Double-Sweep, Coons and Gordon. In this scene, I only used Double-Sweep and Gordon. (click it for a larger image).
* A movie of "Ratchet - The Magic Dog". (My first attempt at using animation to tell a short story. Until now, all of my work (I guess I should say my "hobby") has been with "still" images.

When I finished writing my review, I visited the Eovia web site and what do you know, they released version 5.1. I wasn't going to comment on this new update but the new "wind in the trees" feature was so impressive, I just had to render a short movie and add it to my review... so that's on my review page as well.

Here is the link to my review:

Note: The images I currently have posted on this site (eovia3d.net) were all made when I reviewed Carrara "4" Pro. Take a look at those pictures and think about Carrara "5" Pro making them better-looking and easier to create. Here are the titles of those images:
* Web Page Menu
* RoBOcean - Big Sale
* RoBOcean - Grand Opening
* Indoor Sample
* Outdoor Sample
* Awakenings
* Awakening
* Magic Snow - toon
* Magic Snow - photo
