Carrara 5.1 is available!

As announced on the last Hexagon 2 Chat, Eovia has just released the Carrara 5.1 update. As usual, it adds a lot of bugfixes, and some new features, such as:

  • A new tree editor, to help you create you own tree in an easier way than before.
  • The support of wind for the trees.
  • The lensflare effects for distant light and sunlights.
  • The support of volumetric light through transparency materials.
  • The Universal Manipulator in the Assembly room.
Grab your update on the Eovia download section!

Question

Thanks Eovia for adding wind dynamics to the trees - that was my #1 request after discovering Carrara 5 Pro and purchasing it!

Warning Nice

I'm testing volumetric light at the moment and it looks promising, it will do for now, i think. Hopefully in the future it will be athmosfere based.

New tree interface looks good, but I menaged to chrash carrara couple of times while playing with settings, so I suspect it will need some polishing

Wind effect is certanly a good addition (can animated grass be created with this?).

I never cared for the lensflares, really not necessary in my opinion, most camera manufacturers are actually trying to supress these in real lenses.

Universal manipulator is actually my favorite addition, realy speeds things up, good job Eovia guys and thanks !

I've always found this to be ironic and amusing. The professional photographer tries to optimize the lighting and camera placement to avoid lens flares and other faults. The scene (in many cases anyway) is cleaned and put into optimum condition for the photo shoot. In 3D however, we try to put some of these faults back in to make the final render look more realistic.

I just got Carrara5 and am loving it! Thanks Eovia for the added functionality and enhancements. :-) I considered Vue Infinite, but Carrara5 basic already beats it hands down!

The tree editor is lots of fun so far. Now...if only you guys would sell the network renderer as a separate plugin so I can render out some GI outdoor scenes without killin my little pc here ;)

To me its a necessary effect, but it should be a lot more subtle then it is in most renders I've seen. Lens flares came into there own during the Babylon 5 era.

Fluid Dynamics still needs lots of work

Hello Everybody,

carrara 5.1 is great comapre to its older versions. But still it needs soooo much work. "Facing Camera" option in the particle emitters section was a great addition. but still the rendering time is too long for a two second smoke effect. When I talked to the Eovia representative, I was told that making a nice effect is expensive. But that DOES NOT solve the problem. Other parts that need more work are water and "motion path".
I still appreciate all the hard work that has been done to get Carrara to where it is today.

GREAT JOB AND YHANK YOU.

Update?

Apparently I am the only one unable to download this update. I am unable to log on to the download site or request my password (which I know anyhow). I am using Win XP sp2 with Firefox and IE6. Cookies are enabled. Scripts are enabled. Anyone with a suggestion would be appreciated.

Thanks
Ed
