Hexagon 2 Announced on Eovia.com!

Eovia has just announced their new version of Hexagon, adding a lot of major tools and improvements to the current base tools.

In the pipe, new sculpting tools, working directy on your object, to push, pull, smooth the geometry, adding details and micro details, on low or high resolution meshes! It is also possible to add patterns or use custom brushes.

Added to that, a new UV editor, with powerful tools, which work as the 3D tools and the now famous UV unfold tool! You will see UVs from another point of view

Another major addition is the paint tool, which allows you applying textures, with, as the displacement, custom brushes with map to reveal too, and you can even mix a displacement with a color and/or transparency! Fabulous, no?

Then, various changes on the 3D display, which supports now millions of polygons, realtime shadows, and an ultra fast Ambient Occlusion preview, which skip going to a render package and going back to Hexagon.

And, as you can imagine, a lot of improvements, additions, etc.

Don't forget to check the Hexagon product page on Eovia.com and watch the demo movies!

UNREAL! We now have tools found in ZBrush! I just checked out the videos on the 3D paint tool and bump brush tool. I am a ZB user so this is REALLY cool.

I no longer view Hexagon as 'a nice tool to have, but I don't need to own it' type of application.

It doesn't say whether the price has gone up or not, but I can predict that Hex will become a permenant part of my toolset along with C5 Pro.

(I will still be disappointed if Carrara doesn't get mirror modelling).

Get ready to welcome me to the family...

Wow. I am so pleased to see this. This is incredible. You folks at Eovia have realy been staying on top of the competition and have answered back. Nice job!

One thing...perhaps in my excitement, I missed this. Is there going to be a mirroring tool? I like the symmetry tool and want to keep it...but I was hoping for a real mirroring tool to add with it.

Wait a minute. So with all these new surface treatment features does this mean that Hex will also have a rendering system? When you export to Carrara will the all the surface treaments carry over?
Did I miss something?

Thanks,
Dooki

You're welcome. Believe me, Carrara 6 will follow suit. It will be just as magnificent as Hexagon 2! Eovia made enough money selling Hexagon 1 to do the impossible! Millions more dollars are coming in selling Hexagon 2 ...

Great News ... this will well compete with Modo 2, but ...

Are the frequently requested adjustable "reference planes" for background images included in version 2 ? I am talking about the option of multiple reference planes which adjust to the size of a picture and don't have to be square, can slide in a direction, and can easily be hidden or frozen.

I am sure you know what I am talking about?

Will hex files store all the current settings, so that when you open a file, you will see
everything set up exactly the same way as at the time you saved a file?

Thanks in advance to your team for the new release !

- Marco.

I think if Hex could make calls into Carrara's rendering system so that ALL textures and materials could be defined and edited in Hex and then carried over to Carrara ALL INTACT - this would be a major kick-azz capability.

Very similar to Lightwave Modeler / Layout but with full texturing display in Hex unlike LW's modeler.

That would be hott in my book no doubt! (And great for Eovia sales too I'd imagine!)

According to all what I have read it is all openGL.

Pretty sure that would be a major bullet point if they added one.

I just bought the upgrade anyway. Receipt confirmation says should be out mid April.

Eovia has pretty good about releasing on time or close, let's all hope they keep the trend, I am real anxious to get my fingers on the new toys!

Dooki, I think it is more accurate to say that Hex gives a rendered preview with ambient occlusion. It is demonstrated in the video at the Hex homepage. It is still expected that final rendering will take place in another package.

After Hexagon 2, that's it for me when it comes to modeling. The extra features are too much for me to handle. I'll most likely use about less than half of them. I won't bite with Hexagon 3 until I've maxed out all of Hexagon 2's features. So after version 2, I'd only grab updates for 2, which I'll anticipate for free.
I'll probably upgrade to version 3 only if it introduce usable NURBS. So you see I love working with lines, splines, NURBS, whatever you call them, not just pure SDS.

After Carrara 6, that's it for me as a complete package.

Strange upgrade politic of Eovia

Could Eovia please explain why on earth long time users have to pay more than upcoming users of your products?

I mean upgrading to Hexagon2 from Hex 1.
Longtime users have to pay 99 euros extra compared to those who will buy Hexagon 1 will get free upgrade to 2! That is outrageous!

Same reason SIlo offer the same and also Newtek and Luxology etc. Pretty standard practice. .

Miken72 ,
the upgrade from Hex 1 to Hex 2 is $99
new users pay $199 for Hex 1 with a free upgrade to hex 2 ,
I dont think that is too bad ,
I cant see how you think old hex users are paying more?

Well I own a 2005 ford and when the 2006 came out there was no discount and we all had to pay full price so... I don't see a problem here..

Well as mentioned, it's standard practice in the software industry.

As existing customers, we're on an UPGRADE path; the price for the latest version is LESS than the cost of buying new. (If there wasn't an upgrade path, you'd pay the FULL price for every released version - that's definitely BAD.)

The >pricing incentive< is to attract new customers - that pricing incentive usually goes away after a short period of time after the upgrade is released - sometimes it goes away at the time of release.

The idea is for the company whos software you use and love to make money to further their research and development and create other wares...

I'm sure you'd hate to see Eovia go belly up after releasing Hex 2?? It sorta works to your advantage that Eovia is actually >making money< from the software it sells, no??

I own and use alot of software , and eovia's pricing policy is one of the best .
If you own any of their software you get even a better deal
For example I 1st got carrara 3 and paid full price for it BUT because I had purchased Carrara 3 I was then able to get Amapi designer 7 ,Amapi pro 7.5 and Hex1 at a reduced price as well as uprade path ect
not all other software companys do this , So I love eovia and I will keep upgrading for as long as i use their software
Great work eovia!
