The C5.02 installer says it's installing/upgrading in a "Carrara Pro.app" folder (which doesn't exist) but it won't let me select any other folder, like my Carrara 5 Pro folder in my Applications folder. (Does it matter what version of Stuffit I'm using?)

If you've reinstalled, and thrown away preferences, etc., on OS X, just a reminder to update your permissions. I hope this all gets resolved soon.
Could it be that the updater is trying to update your Carrara 4 application? IIRC, the type of installer eovia is using for C5 is offering a "select..." button in the lower left, and will then present all installed products it can find on your harddrive.

Dunno if that helps, but it could be a pointer, he.
Merry christmas, by the way...

Thanks so much for the suggestion; I tried relocating and renaming my C4 folder, but that still didn't seem to work. Eventually, I re-installed C5Pro (Plug-Ins et al) and I downloaded the upgrade yet again – then it just worked fine (maybe my installer was damaged somehow [that's why I was asking about Stuffit]). Thanks all the same.
I hope you enjoyed your holiday and all the very best to everyone for the new year!

For those of you who add a problem with the installation for Hexagon 1.21 update, please, download the patch again on Eovia.com.
We found an error on the installer who affects all users who bought Hexagon 1.2 and which not updated from 1.0 (or 1.01)

Sorry for this problem!

Also, a quick note (especially to new Carrara users), training for Carrara 5 is now available on lynda.com (trainer: Jack Whitney)
I was a Swift 3D user. I have Lynda .com full subscription and watched the tutes on Carrara 5 and thats what made me buy it... They are good tutes IMO really learned a lot for being brand new to Carrara..

'Carrara Pro 5 not installed on this Computer'

Hi all

I am having a similar problem with the Carrara Pro 5 2.01 update. I get a message saying that Carrara 5 Pro is not installed but I have been using it for a while now. I have contacted Eovia but have not heard back as yet.

Be sure you downloaded the OSX Pro version of the upgrade (I know that sounds rediculous but, I was pretty sure I downloded the pro version, but in frustration I downloaded it again and the second time the decompressed file was named "Carrara502ProOsxUpdate" and it worked just fine). Also check to make sure you didn't change the name of your Carrara 5 Pro folder.

Greetings,
I believe the latest update is 5.02 (and not 5 2.01). Make sure the updater is named "Carrara502ProOsxUpdate". The first time I downloaded the upgrade from the "Pro" link, the name didn't contain "pro" (Carrara 5.0.2 Updater) and I experienced a lot of frustration … I know it's weird. If your udater is named "Carrara502ProOsxUpdate", and you're still experiencing difficulty you could try: (i)Making sure you didn't rename your Carrara 5 Pro Folder in the Applications folder (ii)Throwing away your Carrara Pro Preferences (iii) Remember to repair you permissions (Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility …). I do believe the real problem was getting the correct installer though. Hope this helps …

Hi aether

Thanks again for your help. Eovia support got back to me really quickly as well with pretty much what you suggested. However I went for a fresh install from scratch and everything then worked a treat. Funnily enough the program seems to now run smoother when loading Poser scenes so maybe the original install was a bit ropey !

Cheers.

Training

Thanks for all you e-mails! The last one you stated that you understood that there is TRAINING aids coming out for HEXAGON.

I will be upgrading my ISP from DILA UP to DSL within the week so I may learn from training aids from online training companies. I am interested n Buying a YEAR from either WWW.LYNDA.COM or WWW.VTC.COM as for the price of buying 3 stand alone titles I could access to ALL they have for say $250 per year!

I am leaning twards LYNDA because they have CARRARA 5 PRO, but would like to join a COMPANY that is going ot have HEXAGON as well!

Do you know of any training aids being made for HEXAGON?

Rich Tuttle

ALso do you have any opinition about MOJO PRO

Unfortunately, I am unaware of any training for Hexagon apart from eovia.com and eovia3d.net. I really enjoy using Hexagon, and some additional training would be great but I don't think Hexagon has been around long enough for VTC or lynda.com to embark on a training title for it yet (I really wish I'm wrong but …).

Carrara has been out for quite some time now and VTC provided training for earlier versions; Carrara 5 was the first version to be offered by lynda.com

If you just want to learn Carrara, you only need to subscribe for one month perhaps; if however you want to learn multiple applications, I would highly recommend a one year subscription (I considered it money very well spent).

You also mentioned Mojo — even though it's been out for a few years now, it is not a very widely used program (but it does have a bit of a learning curve). Perhaps you could try writing lynda.com and/or VTC.com and suggest that they do a course on it.

Good Luck in your quest …

I'm aware of two DVD projects (but not for downloads) about Hexagon.
One from Stuart (a member of this forum) and the other from... me...
But it will be released first in french, and after, in english.

I to have BUG,VIRUS, WORM, SPYWAR, and OTHER critter hunters and don't have running on my G-4s but run them of their disks once in a while and have never once found a thing! ithink VIRUS software for MAC 10 and above are more trouble than help

That having been said it sounds like something is running in the background during the install, Like a bug hunter!

But I am not a IT guy! I would like to hear from other MAC folks of they have ever found or been effected by and BUGS!

Also since I have been running MAC 10 and above I have never had any Sysytem PROBLEMS! I am a hardcore fan of DISK WARRIOR as well as TECKTOOLS PRO from my experience with Earlier OSs, and as habit run them once in a while and they do pick up minor problems such as Modification dates and such!

May want to contact EOVIA they are champions with tech problems!
Good luck

YES Thank gawd! Now if we can only get LYNDA or VTC to do HEXAGON!

I was using LIGHTWAVE 7.5 Running under MAC OS 9.2 for my more complicated modeling such as car bodies or ATV bodies.

I bought HEXAGON and can't make heads or tails about it. Sounds like I'll have to go get the LIGHTWAVE upgrade to LW8, and install it under OS 10.3.9 to get going. AND I HATE LW................

Just because LYNDA has offered C5 Training I have desided to go from DIALUP to DSL and join a YEAR membership to LYNDA and save a few bucks! heck its only $250 and 3 single training issues would be more than that! IF I COULD ONLY FIGURE OUT HOW TO SAVE OR DOWNLOAD the videos you can watch?

Now with my luck soon as I get signed on to LYNDA VYC will offer HEXAGON!

A couple of weeks ago I did see HEXAGON under the WISH LIST area on VTC, now it isn't there any longer! It didnt move up to IN DEVELOPEMENT it just wasnt there any longer.

HUMMMMMMMMMMM!

Also one great thing you can do in LW7.5 was create SINGLE PIONTS then select them and tell LW to make a POLY! How can one MAKE a SINGLE point in HEXAGON?

Can anyone help me here! I have been using Carrara since in was RAY DREAM and have always been disapointed with the results of say a DOGFIGHT animation as germane to the GLOBAL look of the WORLD, terrain, sky, ground ECT. I have just gotten CARRAR 5 PRO and have not had time to try it out in that area, but read about MOJO . Does anyone have any experience with MOJO.

What I am looking for is a REALISTIC looking world PLANES would fly around in.

ANY HELP

I've been using Mac OS for the past 10 years and I agree, apart from one or two little nuisance viruses, it's been pretty safe – I've never installed Anti-virus software on any of my machines. With OSX I've had (on average) 8-15 applications running simultaneously, continuously for weeks at a time with no problem, an no security issues – it's a pretty amazing OS. [From what I've learned from my IT friends – Disk Warrior and Drive Genius are all you'll need for routine diagostics/maintenance.]

I also own a PC and have been using Windows 2000 Pro and XP for the last 4 years or so, and there's just no comparison when using graphics software – The Mac Rules (when using the same apps (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) on the different platforms). I only use the PC for 3D Studio Max and Fractal programs for which there are no Mac versions. If you're a programmer that's a different story (although I did enjoy using Java on the Mac.)

If you're curious, check out Symantec's web site:
http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/global/index.html
... and click on "View all virus threats."

Here you'll get a listing of current viruses, and the affected operating systems. Almost every one of them affects Windows (a few affect Linux and Unix ) but I have not seen any that affect MAC OSX [knock on wood]. Hmmm … maybe I should get into Mac sales : )
