Carrara 5 is now shipping!

After a long wait, Carrara 5 is now shipping! The final version is currently available on the Eovia.com webstore while the users who did a preorder will have soon a link to download the final release!
And Eovia did us a nice surprise: Carrara 5 includes another set of new features since the Beta release!
  • Poser 6 support thru the native importer or Transposer 2 (yeah, SDK released!)
  • Translucency (different from subsurface scattering, to create more realistic leaves, etc..)
  • Light inclusion/exclusion
  • Surface replicator for volumetric objects like clouds
  • Bounding box display for skinned objects, to help you improve your animation setup
  • Smooth on multiselection of objects in the Assembly room
  • Various bug correction and optimisations!
You can take a look at the updated feature list on Eovia.com and talk about it in the forum!

How long will the wait be for a link to the final release for those of us who bought C4 during December and are supposed to get a free upgrade.

Thomas, I just placed my preorder today and I was not redirected to a download link for the beta. Is this changed now and I am too late for the download beta?

Grendel : too late since we ship today. The best way is to contact Bob Stockwell (bob (at) eovia dot com) and ask him how it will work for you (I'm not at all in the marketing team)

Tim: you will get the link during this week. But due to the huuuuge traffic, our download server is currently overloaded and we are trying to spread out the downloads... sorry about that.

Grendel: Yes please contact Bob. You should have got either a link for the Beta, either for the final version.

dcaruso: Bob knows as well as he is in charge of all the Carrara production in the US. The printed manual will be very likely available begining of Januaray. All subscribers of the Eovia mailing list will be advised when it will be on sale.

I understand the server being overloaded and such, but I have tried off and on all day yesterday, and all morning today to download from the link I was sent in an email, and I immediately get a "This page cannot be displayed error" every time. Will it give this error if the server is overloaded, or do I have a bad link?

Have they sent out all the upgrade links for those of us who bought the Hexagon/Carrara 4 bundle in December? I'm supposed to get the upgrade to version 5.

In fact, it was a script error, the last downloads runs smoother.
For the emails, contact Eovia directly. It seems AOL, Hotmail, Yahoo concider the email as spam... or check your junk folders.

reutmanx,

According to an email reply I got from Eovia on 12.14.05, more emails will be going out today (12.15.05). At least for my case which was a companion upgrade by purchasing C4 Std. It seems we needed to fill out the C5 pre-order form also after our purchase. However only time will tell I guess. If or when you contact Eovia, save yourself some trouble and send them copies of all your purchase documents and any serial numbers you currently hold. It's been a week's worth of back and forth emails just to finally get them accept that I bought C4 and should be given the upgrade.

Regards,
Tim

Thomas,

I have sent a email to eovia and element 5.

Tim,

thanx for the advice. I attached a copy of my invoice. That will do!

Happy rendering! (hopefully in C5 soon!)
