Can someone give me some input on the graph editor? I am about to switch my forensic visualization(recreating injuries in capital murder cases) over to carrara 5 from cinema. It will save me much time now since I am using cinema 4d, poser, and interposer to do it now, I figure I will save a lot of time doing it in 1 app, but I am hesitant to go pro from standard at this point.

By the way Ringo, which version of poser are you currently using?

Sorry Thomas, we were getting impatient for Ringo's images to show up. Hey Thomas, I am switching from cinema 4d to Carrara 5 for my work in legal graphics! I do recreations of horrible injuries for the lawyers to prosecute the murderers with.

Yeah that was me. Not a nice job, just freelance that I do a few times a year when the lawyers call me. I have to run a 60" inkjet as my daytime job.

To add to my question bout swappable symmetry, is it possible to extract the skeletons that come in with a Poser model and apply them to other models?

Well, you could always bring your model into poser and set it up in the setup room.

animation trees

in c4 I never found a way to animate (wind) to preset trees - will c5 have this ability (vue 5 can...). Or is there a way to do so otherwise?

Thanks
Brian

brian i think you could do this:
make a tree, and rig it with a couple of bones. Animate it and then use the replicator on it. Yes they would be similar, but with 3 or 4 trees animated differently and then dropped in the replicator, it should be possible. This sounds like a great plugin idea.

This is true jt, but I wanted to get an idea of how much you can do without owning or using Poser.

I picked up the c3 manual and it said you can drag a skeleton to the browser like other objects, so I guess you can reuse the skeletons that come in with a Poser figure.

Can't wait to experiment...

Convert the tree to a vertex model. Make sure that in the plant editor that the leaves are checked as visible.

Booleans

Something no one else seems to be asking, and that is of deep interest to me is about the new Booleans. Basically, the question is are they now dynamic?

For those that don't know, the boolean system present in Carrara 4 dates back to a third party plug-in for Raydream 4ish. Which was little if at all modified when it was bought and dropped into 5 as standard. When 5.5 was released the upgrade was immediately tagged with a cheep upgrade deal to Carrara upon it's release. Carrara was of course the merging of Infini-D, which had a good, and dynamic Boolean system, and RayDream (the end result mostly being RayDream with Infini-D particles, and a KPT/Bryce style interface.) Dynamic of course meaning that both original models were retained, and the Boolean recalculated as needed, including animations of the effect. In spite of the quote I got (with quite a bit of call passing around the MetaCreation's offices,) that Carrara 1 would include Infini-D's Booleans, it did not. If changed at all they seemed to create more glitchy geometry.

Of course none of this can be blamed on Eovia, as it was still in MetaCreations hands at the time. We have Eovia to thank for the final return to good old RayDream xyz grid layout of entry fields, the return to edge docking toolbars (god I missed those,) as well as a plethora of advanced rendering features, and mesh tools covering most of the bases of 3D Studio Max, and in some ways superior. This still all however leaves me wondering if Carrara has finally joined the ranks of programs with dynamic Boolean support (C4D, Studio Max, and Bryce amongst them. Maya seemingly not...)

The new boolean are not dynamic, onthe contrary of Hexagon ones. Carrara don't have a kind of Dynamical Geometry, "a la" Hexagon or Amapi.
But the new booleans come from Hexagon and then, you have a lot more choice for your results ;)

Personally I rarely use booleans so it is not a concern of mine. Weren't the dynamic booleans in Infini-D calculated at render time? Perhaps I'm wrong.
