Rhino news - direct model editing and kinematics solver!

The Russian company LEDAS has announced an upcoming plugin for Rhino, which will add two major feature sets...

http://www.ledas.com/group/press_rel...?press_num=110

First is the ability to build and animate mechanical assemblies using contraint relationships and kinematics. This functionality is available in the public beta of "Driving Dimensions v 0.1" which can be downloaded here:

http://drivingdimensions.com/Rhino/

Secondly (and is the really exciting one) they have developed their own core technology to achieve "direct model editing" as found in products such as Spaceclaim! And they are now working towards a Rhino plugin Here is a link to their homepage:

http://www.ledas.com/

Now it should be possible to have direct model editing within reach of the mid-priced CAD software budget... I'm glad i didn't jump on the first one brought to market!

Ehy, that Spaceclaim Style thing is really interesting!
It looks as it could blow up the whole MoI, Bonzai and Sketchup in one shot!

Yep. Rhino + history free parametrics will be a very serious threat to a lot of design software, especially ones such as Inventor, Shark, Spaceclaim, SolidThinking, etc. I think it's less threat to Sketchup. About MoI, I am not so sure. Depends on what MoI can do which Rhino can not, and how much people are willing to pay for that difference. If the price of MoI grows with each release by $100 every 18 months, it won;t look like so much of a bargain compared to Rhino. As it was for $195 it was an absolute steal. I almost felt guilty for the price ... Will be interesting to see how this LEDAS plugin develops. I hope they release a beta very soon...

Recently I spend time with rhino more than modo.
But, to my disappointment, their prices are expensive for those who are enjoying CG just as a hobby.

Watching for something further information.

Rhino is such an interesting piece of software, but only professionists can afford it.

Actually MoI is the only affordable NURBS application.

In Blender NURBS are a fake entry in the primitive menu.

My hands are full of Rhino and modo now.

However, I want to experience Moi some day.

ViaCAD costs around $70 and is built on very robust geometry kernel. But the UI is a horrible thing... =) My suggestion is go back to school then you can buy Rhino for under $200. Get the whole McNeel bundle for approx $500. Add Brazil for another $200. and Tsplines for another $200... The student version of McNeel software is exactly same as regular version, can be used for commercial work, and can be upgraded...

Thanks a lot!

I just started talking him "from outside", mainly speaking of sci-fi movies and Computer Graphics.

...baby seems to appreciate, mother not much...

OK, sorry for the off-topic, JBshorty.
