Poser Pro announced

Even if Polyloop is not 3D content targeted, it's important to be aware of all 3D software release. Today, Smith Micro announced the release of Poser Pro, which have bridges with other 3D packages.

They also do some nice bundle with software like Zbrush, modo, etc.

I have a version, I will test it with 3DSMax.

I have never owned Poser, so I don't know what makes this version so special.

is it just MORE compatible with other software?

They use a part of Shade 9 Logo. Maybe, the new render engine came from Shade? Isn't it, Thomas?

Yeah, but the rumors appeared more than 8 month ago.

Hmmmmm! I really can't see what market they are aiming for here. $500 is in the pro level. I can't imagine hobby users forking out this much when DAZ studio is free and you can get Carrara for less.

Will professionals use this tool? I don't know.

Perhaps I am being literal, but i think that's why it's called Poser Pro

I think this version of poser is for people who know poser and want more power. Network render and 64bit means more memory use and integration into 3dmax, Maya and Cinema4D, means that a working studio which does not need or want to make models from scratch will probably jump aboard. Yes you can get Daz studio cheaper but if you already own and use Poser it will only cost you $200 not $500. I honestly don't know if I will buy this product because it is too expensive and I don't need it. I have and use Carrara 6pro and Lightwave 9 for rendering and I have Modo and Zbrush to do my modeling so this tool does not appeal to me. This seems to me to be a tool for current poser user with content they want to use in max, maya and cinema. I may be wrong but that is my take.

Slowest cloth simulation in the industry.
Slowest hair simulation in the industry.
Slowest morphing tool in the industry.
No weight maps in a specialized character posing tool.

Yeah, 64-bit rendering is indeed the most necessary thing.

Warning

I can't see who would buy this with Quidam Studio sitting on the shelf right next to it!

Quidam seems way more responsive and powerful than Poser - and Quidam's UI isn't as hoakey as Poser's from what little I played with using the demo.

Having Poser 7, spending 200 to upgrade is way less than 600 but sans PPro's new integration plugins it's just more of the same ole which is slow, slow slow.

...And seeing how Vue did their Xtreme plugins, what's to say that these Poser plugins are going to work all that great with the stated 3rd party apps?

There's already disclaimers about the Collada plugin not working all that well with non-biped characters and other issues...

I had to chuckle though when I saw the Poser Pro "30-days No Questions Asked" return policy!

Hrumph, I see over at the forums, the Poser Pro Cinema 4D plugins aren't working already - there goes any whatsoever slight sensation I may have had to spend my $200 for an upgrade...
