Next Version of Carrara Need Help from This Forum

Posted:22 Jan 2008 19:17I would like to do a little survey to see what you think are the most important features for the next version of Carrara. To keep things simple, I would like you to list the 5 top features you’d like to see in the next version, 1 being the most important and 5 the least important.

Think about it this way: what are the top 5 features you’d like to see if nothing else was going to be added?

The idea is NOT to add features to the previous posts but to vote for the things you really want to see in the product. What matters most is how many people want a given feature...

If you can also explain a bit what you mean by the feature and why you think it is important, that would help too.

Thanks

Charles

1 - Better rigging tools closer to biped in max or xsi rigs this could have it's own room for painting weights/influences on separate objects controlled by the same rig(pants on a character) so you are not just winging it.

2 - Merge the vertex room into the assembly room, it makes multi part assemblies possible or at least the ability to tweek verts/edges/polys in the assemble room.

3 - Render Layers output in psd format, this saves so much time in post it's ridiculous.

4 - Improve the render engine speedwise

5 - LSCM unrwrap and 2d paint tools - this could take the place of the storyboard room which is totally useless. The little window to deal with unwrapping large meshes is a PITA.

6 - fruit/flowers for your tree generator - I don't really use it but it would be cool and some people do landscapes allot.

7 - make the ocean primitive a real thing other than a plane with a bump map. Foam, whitecaps, mesh intersections carried through to ripples on the surface or don't call it an "Ocean Primitive"

8 - You guys did great with the hair but how about a symmetry button It's hard to brush a furry squirrel evenly on both axis(they move around allot)

I hope the voice of the few is not drowned out be the voice of the many on this one.

With all that has been posted at Daz, if it's being read?, that last sentence of Gendels!

A lot of the gefuffle/carry on would reduce this questioning if the ?6.1 update/SR came out last Monday as hinted at!. Surprised that it has taken so long.

I think maybe Carrara needs a calculator, as many of it's users don't seem to be able count to five.....

I decided to wait and see how many non poser model users posted first.

The first few posts were all Poser related. Why don't they continue to USE Poser and leave Carrara to develop as a proper 3d app if its of no use to them with its current importing of Poser models. grrrrr.

I don't mean dump all the poser bits out...its there now but I would want them to reduce the importance of any new developments on that side of things and concentrate on adding useful features. Also it would have been better for them to ask this AFTER the next patch is out.

Will wait and see how the thread develops before adding my wish list.

Cheers

Mike R

From what I can gather the next patch is supposed to mainly be bug fixes (and I've seen some rumors about a cloth plug-in), so there's no harm in getting feedback for seven now.

Who knows, maybe they'll surprise you and put your favorite upgrade in the next patch?

Is this a request from Charles? If so why didn't he post himself? How is the information going to get back to DAZ?

I couldn't find anything on the DAZ forums about this at all.

Well if anyone is listening.

1. Improvements to the atmosphere. Multiple suns, moons, planets, full control over the haze (that doesn't ever go away at the moment). Better clouds (I know there is the volumetric ones but the sky ones are faster)

2. Improved tree/plant editor - I want to make gnarled twisted trees, old trees, trees with more than one kind of leaf and fruit. I also want to make alien trees and plants.

3. Paint on distribution for replication - it's very hit and miss at the moment. Would be great to just paint on where you want stuff.

4. Real water for the ocean primitive.

5. Make the dockers move outside the window, like Silo, Hexagon, Photoshop, etc. So I can move them onto my second monitor without hiding the entire desktop.

To the best of my knowledge this is the only general 3D app (in this price range) that also does landscapes (if you know of another please let me know). This is why I moved to it. The content stuff means that the landscape is getting left behind. I would like to see the landscape side of the application really get some attention now.

Bwtr..

Make sure you ask Patrick's or anyone else's permission before re-posting their work, I doubt he would mind, but it's always polite to double check or simply link to where he has it.

The landscape tools could use some more help, I agree and painting instances or something along those lines could greatly speed up workflow.

include swap plug-in

If they included the SWAP plug-in it would sure help new users.

After reading about it in the forum I tried it and Wow! did it ever make lighting easier, now a pleasure instead of a chore.
