I have started doing 3D with an amiga and the early versions of realsoft 3D (named real 3D)... it's now a very powerfull application but I think it's not an application for everyone (not as easy to use as carrara for exemple)

rickei, I saw on their site that they have a 60 day trial for OS-X (I think v.5), you might wanna try that. I agree €300 for an open beta is a stiff price, especially if you don't know whether it's for you or not. As Cedric mentioned, it is a powerful program, with lots of features, but not as easy to use as say Carrara. For me the workflow in the beginning was a bit alienating, but now I am becoming friends with the program. The main reason for me to keep going back to it was that it has both NURBS and SDS poly modeling options grouped into one package. Some things for me go more easy in NURBS than poly, even if the production precision is not needed. I cannot tell too much of the new features in v.6, it's still too new on my HDD. Ciao, Wim |

I started out with Realsoft as well from a free v.4 from a magazine. I liked it but just moved on to others. The HTML guide that comes with it is perfect and I wish other apps would follow the same format. I saw there was upgrade pricing from v4/5. I wonder if this counts the free ones from the magazine. 3dWorld gave out v.5 awhile back, could save allot of money that way. |

Yes, the 3D World version 4 cover disk version does upgrade to version 6. I bought it a couple of days ago. I hadn't even thought about it in a while. I received the notification mailer from Realsoft and it sounded interesting so I found my cover disk, installed it and bought the update. Fortunately, the serial number was on the disk - I have no idea where the magazine is after all this time. I'm still feeling it out though. I've been working with learning Rhino and haven't been doing poly modelling and so haven't been participating around here. It would be nice to be able to talk with other beginners regarding new software. NOTE: The price is only given in euros so if you want to know exactly how much it costs in your local currency if you don't use euros (I'm in the US) you may have to write them. They gave me an approximate figure on the day I wrote, but I won't actually see the exact amount until I receive my statement. On another topic, I also bought Viacad a couple of weeks ago from Amazon. I find out more interesting stuff here. :-) |

@ Rickei... (Hope I'm not crashing the party here) Have you done anything with your new Cinema 4D? I still haven't slowed down enough to look at mine. Sorry for the break, it's just that the interface of RealSoft reminded me a bit of C4D...

Realsoft (formerly Real 3D as pointed out by Graphinc) is an incredibly powerful 3D program which was the first to have a lot of very advanced things back in time such as behavioral animation, powerful particles, fully threaded applications, rigid and soft body dynamics, a great ray-tracing engine, and also powerful NURBS with a construction history and trimmed curves ! ![]() That said, the GUI has always been the weak point of this app and i think that's why you don't find a lot of great images or artists using it, beside the fact that the company is from Finland and have never had a lot of exposure... (appart from Evans&Sutherland who forced them to abandon the name Real 3D because it was the same as an inhouse program !! )However, as already been said, you can download a demo of the soft if you want to see what it can do. But be aware that you'll have to read the doc if you want to be able to do anything, as the logic behind the soft is somewhat... disturbing to say the least ! ![]() Cheers, Laurent aka Tartiflette |
