mmmm, but you would feed your objs and projects into it, do the magic and export the render? Pro software going cheap. I have used the trial versions of Houdini and it has very powerful dynamics and other stuff, but it is all done in a procedural fashion, you have to try it out and follow the tutes, to understand what I mean, quite good fun but a little different. Interesting software but Im concentrating on other things right now. Its worth knowing a little bit about though I think if you have time.

Thanks for that.

I'm very tempted - £50 for an all singing and all dancing 3d package which would normally cost £4000 + ?

Providing you are not going to use it for commercial work I can't see where you can go wrong ?

Downloading the free version (watermarked) to see if I can make any sense of it and will be asking Santa for a copy if I can. (servers are a bit slow though - wonder why )

Not interested in its modelling capabilities as I am slowly getting used to modo but I am very interested in its animation side.

But, can you save anything usable other than as a still image?

That's a good question, but since it's just a license-limited version of Master I would say you can render animations.

You can save stills at any resolution, animation limited to HD, and the file format for your projects is a non-commercial houdini format that can only be read by apprentice or HD. You can open it in escape or master if you created in apprentice but only render to apprentice specs. You cannot import a project made in escape or master to apprentice, but if you have escape or master why would you want to.

$99 is great and I'll pick it up, a full-on awesome render engine for stills and animation for cheap, how could you pass it up.

It's non-commercial, so I think that's a pretty good reason.

It's still a good deal as it's open to everybody, not just students, unlike most academic software.

Render size is unlimited for stills, 1920x1080 for animations. I think you might be mixing it up with the free version.
