Very funny. I just can remind how they tried to spread a rumors Shade 9 Eng is developed in US, it will be completely different from Shade 9 Jap, blah-blah-blah.

I think, the most reliable way to stay with Shade is learning Japanese.

Sadly, this is true.

I'm currently skeptical about Shade's long-term future, and I'm a fan.

There's just too many companies working so much harder to support their products - including Blender, which is free.

The US release of Shade was developped in US. I don't know now.

Apparently it's Japan now.

I don't think there's been any intentional deception from e frontier as far as I can see, there just hasn't been any official word on the changes that have been going on, or Shade 9's progress.

Anyway, once Shade 9's out hopefully everything will get better.

E frontier have recently brought out some kind of Shade file viewer for the mac. Maybe this is a good sign.

Unfortunately I have to agree to a point, that it is better to be in Japan for support of Shade. The userbase is night and day difference in Japan vs. other countries. On the positive side, I also believe Shades scripting can make it one of the top 3dcg apps out, if developers/programmers get behind it. We'll see how Shade 9 does elsewhere, who knows it may surprise yet, but it has alot of catching up to do(imho). Not hearing anything from e-F US for so long about Shade 9 made me hold off any upgrading there, but I guess the SM deal had alot to do with it maybe. ;)

There's nothing wrong with the app itself. It's missing some things, but what's there is top-notch.

Unfortunately, it's got many little technical aspects to it which aren't obvious, even once you've read the manuals (1000 pages +). Like, how do they make those girls? When you look at how the faces are made it's obvious I'm missing something. It's totally different from other apps I've used.

Shade is killing it in Japan because of the level of support it has - books, elite users etc. Pretty much what you see with Max/ Maya in the west.

I think ef were waiting to see what sort of impact Shade was going to make before committing themselves to expenses like book translations, tutorial videos etc.

Unfortunately, the truth is without this kind of support your destined to go nowhere. Even the Blender people have realized this, which is why we're seeing more training material being published and the Orange Project.

My prediction is that the programs that prosper over the coming years will be the ones who hold the hands of users the best. Imo Modo is a prime example of an app which is made by a company who knows this.
