35% of French members voted "no". If megred WIP is uncomfortable for them, it's not a good idea to enforce them.

How about simply allow French language in the English part of the forum? In any topic.

I don't think it would be a good idea to allow using other languages unless Polyloop has moderators who are speaking Spanish, Japanese, Swahili et. al.

I thought the idea was to merge the essentially visual portions of the forum? I see French in any topic to be an entirely different issue, and rather nonsensical in view of the 35% no on the WIP merge.

I was about to say, 35% looks like a minority and a landslide.

Many more French post in the English side than Americans, English post on the French side anyway because Europeans are taught multi-languages more than we are to begin with. I'd say let nature take it's course and let people post where they want to.

The initial idea is widely supported here, because English part members want to see Polyloop to be more open. Absolutely nonsensical wish, I agree.

As I can remember, one of the counter-evidence was "many of French members can not speak English". So let them speak French, if they want say something in Eng-part?

If you do merge them could you please set the default # of post to show per page to 5. the Google translator only seems to translate the first five post...all the others are in French. I can set it to 5 in my User CP, but as soon as you click "translate", my preferences disappear, since it log's you out

I originally voted yes to merge the WIP, but it never dawned on me that the French would write anything other than in French.

I don't expect the French to write in English why would they? I appreciate those French that kindly write in English because as Nate has succinctly explained the translator is pretty naff!.

So I would suggest do it for a trial period, then put it to the vote again. If the majority say No we carry on as we are, no sweat.

This is a French site on which I am a grateful guest.

Even if we can not understand french, it is always nice to see what others are creating, i am sure we can leave english comments too, we can also use the translator to change the language.
