FYI, a lot of french are afraid of this merging, because of they think that the forum will become more and more "english speaking" and will lost it french personality.

One idea Thomas
Is it possible to write a thread in french and have a translation in english in the same time, together??
And write in english and have the translation in french too, of course???!
It should be a good thing! ,)

I don't speak French, but I don't get bothered by having native speakers use their own language. There's no reason they need to speak english and I can use a translator if I need it. The pictures in the same place is the main point.

My suggestion was to keep separated those sections, and that french users creates a parralel thread in english if they want to share thier WIP.( what i've just started)
Lot of french people do not speak english that's the way things are...
Sometimes myself i cannot understand everything when the english level (or it's american ?) raise, especially when some people are joking.
Having some contents or suggestions on his WIPs and being unable to understand it because it's not regular plain old english suitable for an automated translator is really frustating. Being unable to answer also is frustating.
just my 2 cents.

I agree on the pictures, but I also like the idea of the different languages in the same place too. Merging the WIP section will encourage me to step out of my little english speaking box and figure out what is being offered for advice, so that I can respond. Therefore my vote was yes, and, I'd say to make sure to encourage those posting to use their native language and not feel forced to use english if they choose. A true multilingual area is a unique opportunity that this site can offer.

Thomas... I understand this. But one of the neat things that I have enjoyed about PolyLoop is that it is very much an international community.
It does not bother me that people post in their native language, just that I would like to be able to fully understand the posts.
It is not a necessity, and having the art and all together would be wonderful.
My wish is that art would transcend and rise above the walls.
I have no prejudices against any nationalities, and love to experience the culture mix.
It may be naive, but breaking down any kind of walls makes for a better world community - culturally, politically, etc. Hey, we could all have an international Woodstock, peace, flowers... and grow lots of hair now that Carrara 6 is out!!!

nice words!, Nate.
I recalled one phrase which I often heard by my favorite radio program when I was young.

It’s “A little language goes a long way”.

I would like to interpret this words now as “A few words with each other would make Interpersonal good communication and promote understanding each other among Polyloop members of French and English part”.

Thanks.
I welcome all interpretations as long as it helps the "melding*" of the community. (*as Spock from Star Trek would say)

I voted yes, but it is on condition that the forum keeps the same balance, if the forum start to lose its french personality, then I would not be in favour of the merge also.

I have no problem with looking in the french section as it is, my only issue is they will laugh at my school boy french so I not say much

the only thing that worries me about the 2 being combined, is the sheer volume of WIP's that would be posted daily. sometimes it's hard for me to keep up with just the English side.

the other thing that worries me is the friendly banter that goes on here might not continue, if we have to be plain and simple in our replies. but just like everything else I'm sure it will all work itself out...after all we are adults here. Speaking of adults, maybe we should have a geriatric section for Brian(bwtr) ... sorry Brian somebody had to say it.

Other that those issues, I'm all for it

On second thoughts, I'd go with Pete's suggestion and after reading Thomas' concerns:

"FYI, a lot of french are afraid of this merging, because of they think that the forum will become more and more "english speaking" and will lost it french personality."

However, the French side should not feel obligated to do so. I fully respect their wishes.

I have to speak English here. I don't feel like I loose my individuality and personality because of that.

Yep, same here, I actually like it, one of the easiest languages there is (OK, maybe Italian is easier)...

IMO internet is our best bet if we are ever going to tear apart all the walls between us, establishing a common language is only possible here, I doubt that politicians are ever gonna agree on it, especially in Europe, where people speak so many different ones...

As an 75year "Old Fart" I could really cry that I can not read the wonderful French posts on this forum. IF a really good, understandable, conversion to English was posible, my day would be made.

I just dont try to even look at any French posts because of the ridiculous interpretations, so it would be a real waste of time and effort--to me--- if the forums were merged .

Uncle Brian, you are not alone. I don't speak French at all also. And I can not make my older daughter to sit near me and translate from French to Russian. However, on-line translators are crap, but they allow understand at least something.
I like this place 'cause it's open. In many aspects. It gives me a big picture.

All this does not mean I try to enforce French guys if they don't want to merge WIPs.
