sadot, you're too talented. It makes all of us look bad!!!... Seriously, I just don't have enough time to model all the ideas coming from my mind. But i enjoy seeing all the great work from you, Mox and all the other frequent "challengers"...

A lot of members seems to think that it is a competition.. it's not, it's just a way to progress with a subject you didn't choose... but you can choose the interprestation!!

Sadot- Its all about practice, try to mimic the proportions of what you want Create :D.

Thomas maybe you need to have the challenge stick in the homepage with a image, each time there is a new challenge you change the image. that way peoples see it more easy. Improve your modeling skill enter the challenge.

Maybe change the title from "Speed Challenges" to weekly challenges or something. Some people may be turned away by the speed part if they are new to modelling.

I will try the frog challenge this morning.

It´s just an idea

-Maybe a subforum in the 2D WIP/finished
something for sketch´s images -images that take you no more than a pair of minutes and take one to make a challenge-

remember it´s just an idea

i think its the "speed" part which puts people off the challenge.

In my case, it's not the speed problem, even if I spend more than expected, I'll enjoy doing it, and tell you how long I've been. I'm sure you'll give me the tips to improve my skills. That's the way I feel to participate challenges. I tried (for example) to modele the frog king, but it's not looking a frog at all, so, I didn't post. In fact, it's not the subject, just I don't manage to do it good enough to be posted. Unless one of you feel down and want to laugh a good time, I'll post it for fun . But it may not be serious at all and I wouldn't like it to look like flood.

Maybe whoever posts the challenge subject could post a tutorial or a quick walkthru to get people new to modeling started in the right direction. It would also increase our amount of tutorials for training.

I think we should start with easy challenges that work up a basic skill set. Challenges over at sub-d are fun for experienced modelers but can make a newb feel like they can't accomplish a damn thing, especially after a couple awesome entries are posted. More of a grow your own members approach but that is one of the goals of Polyloop anyway, providing a forum where we can all grow together.

Maybe us Mods could each take a turn as heading the challenge as we tend to be more experienced and already write tutorials anyway. Kind of like Thomas has done for all of us with Georgette and so on...

I like the idea of monthly challenges so everyone can participate and take a subject from modelling to rendering.

I think a good idea is to do simple and advanced challenge, to let all range of user to participate, but something better should be to do a set of tutorial challenge or competition about the best way to do a model. It's a good way to discover the others tips and tricks, and then, help beginners to learn how to model/create.
It's not just only creation, it's more a learning creation

i agree, but i think a lot of people will not post their tips/tricks probably because it take more time to publish on a board than just a finished image, and probably because a lot of people don't like to share their "secret".

But if we have a few poster, it's a good thing for new user.

I have an idea
watch this please

http://forums.polyloop.net/3d-models...cees-bust.html

The model is already done and the idea is to create deformations without adding new geometry, and you acquire experience

As an alternative maybe more creative challenges. In the wings forum on renderosity and CG talk we just pick a subject and go with it. Just a general subject and then you can be creative and come up with different ways to go about it. Over at Renderosity it is now watercraft . Maybe both options. Before we had anchient buildings and cartoon characters etc. I do enjoy doing set piece challenges too but sometimes I want to be a bit more creative and come up with my own ideas.
