because UV's (0;0) is on the bottom left, like an 2D space, and in all 2D software, 1st pixel is on the top left. That's why it's flipped.

It must be a flipping northern hemisphere thing because if the software had been developed down in the sunny blue southern hemisphere the textures would have been the right way up

I do not like it flipped in the slightest. The extra steps in dealing with it drives me nuts! I hope it gets corrected very soon.
