Symmetry Mode

Me again with a Symmetry Mode question

Started with a cube, added Symmetry plane, selected one face and Tesselated it into quads. One quad face was then extruded, expecting to see same happen on other side of the symmetry plane.

The manual states:
Some tools do not work with the Symmetry Mode, in which case you will need to manually apply the operation on both halves of the model.

From this do I assume Tesselate is one of the tools that doesn't work in Symmetry Mode?
Is there a list of which tools do/don't work or is it a case of suck it and see?

thanks for your patience

Bob

You need to make sure you turn the Clone ON option on in the properties when you create the symmetrical object.

And tesselation is OK with symmetry. It should tell you in a popup window when the tool does not support symmetry if I remember correctly.

Blues hi,

I am referring to Symmetry Mode - are you referring to Symmetry Tool? the manual says they are seperate methods.

It is important to note that to model with symmetry, Hexagon provides a Symmetry Mode and a Symmetry Tool the difference is essential.

What I am saying is in Symmetry Mode, Tesselate doesn't work, is this normal or a bug?

Follow what I did in prev post from creating a cube. In the cube properties the Symmetry Mode activate button shows up, highlighting it and selecting a Symmetry plane X,Y,Z will allow you to make Symmetrical extrusions etc. about that plane, but not if you use Tesselate on one of the faces.

So according to the manual which are the tools that don't work with it? is there a list somewhere?

thanks

Bob

Ahhh, OK, I thought you meant that when you added the symmetry plane you meant by using the symmetry tool and duplicating the object.

Can you tell me EXACTLY the steps you are doing?

Also, I am not aware of any list for what does not work in symmetry mode, sorry. I do know I run into one or two now and then, bridge tool is one that comes to mind first if my memory serves me correctly.

Yes, the automatic tesselation tool (cross, "+", diamond) are not supported in the symmetry mode.
