[smoothing] If a model has edge creases, adding new faces/verts/edges to mesh resets!

HEX 2 on Windows XP

This makes it very difficult to progressively edit a model.

I make a model, and crease some edges as I go. Whoops! I need to extrude a extra section somewhere on the model. I extrude the section. Damn, now I've lost all my edge creases!

I can understand losing the crease settings for edges involved in the editting operation, and even edges sharing a vertex with edges affected by modeling ops. But the entire model shouldn't lose all of it's creases. Blender doesn't suffer from this problem.

This makes incremental edits very problematic.
