Do you Unfold UVs before or after displacement painting? I have tried both. I have been having trouble getting this to work and I need a little insight. I have been Unfolding UVs always before I paint a texture map as the paint tool won't paint without a texture map in the materials (this much I know). What about displacement? I can't get the texture map to be applied correctly in Carrara when I use the Unfold UV tool. I have been saving from Hexagon as an object file. The displacement is always good on the object in Carrara but the texture map from Unfold UV is always screwed up however I try it. It looks great in Hexagon...confused. Also what is the difference and uses of seam and pins. I have been using seems but I don't understand how to use pins. Any steps I should follow? Thanks |

| Maybe this is a better way to ask my questions: What is the difference and use of seams and pins in UV Unfold. I have been using seams but I don't understand how to use the pins. I have a feeling this is why my textures from UV Unfold are coming into Carrara all messed up. Seams 'seem' easy enough but to do, but how does one use the pins? I have a feeling pins hold the texture in place on the object. Can someone verify this and how to use the pins in UV Unfold? Also, does one UV Unfold before or after displacement? Will displacement screw up UVs? I know for texture painting you need to UV map your object and create a texture map in the materials before you can paint. I know I am doing something wrong from the results showing up in Carrara. Anyone out there with some insight on this? Appreciated |

Unfolding: 1. set selection to edge and make the seams how you want them and press the little head. 2. select pins, set selection to vertex (dot) and select 2 vertex and press the + button next to the - botton. I hope this is what you looking for. And I hope that the bugs get fixed soon so I can use the program. |
