| Hexagon 2 and Cinema 4D
Hello. To me as a newcomer to 3D and Hexagon, the $1.99 price is a no-brainer. I just purchased the Cinema 4D 9.5 Studio bundle. I am wondering how I can use both to be more 'capable' at what I may need to do. How can Hexagon 2 compliment Cinema 4D? Are there modeling tools in Hex which aren't in Cinema 4D? Any insight would be appreciated! David |

So what kind of projects do you have in mind? How much did you buy Cinema4D 9.5 Studio bundle, if I may ask? As for your question, it really depends on how you see things. To me it's an individual thing. Like, some find Silo easier to use than Hexagon, and vise versa. I'm sure Cinema4d's modeling features are just as capable as Hexagon's, or any modeling app for that matter. Sometimes it's not even the app. Sub-d modeling, which is what most users prefer, for example, requires some basic knowledge of it common to all programs. Once you get used to the app's workflow, everything seems second nature. Since you've just bought a very expensive app, I'd suggest that you start playing with it now with a sample that you want to model and render. Although you can start with Hexagon or Silo or Modo or even Wings3d, it's still essential that you also learn how to move entities around in Cinema4d when you have imported the model so you don't have to go back and forth between programs, such as editing small to medium changes. Hexagon is just a modeler. You still have to use Cinema4d to complete your project. HTH, for now. |

If your Cinema4D comes with BodyPaint then that is a great program for texture painting and C4D already has great modeling and animation. The big thing about Hexagon 2 is its "sculpting" tools, or micro-displacement modeling tools. C4D does not have this yet, actually most apps do not besides ZBrush. So even if you end up doing most of your modeling in C4D, Hexagon 2 could be the tool you use to add fine details to your meshes. This is how I plan to use it alongside my main app, XSI. |

That's why I'm asking him what kind of projects he's going to use the apps for. Cinema4d also has good nurbs modeling feature. Some even use it for industrial design jobs as opposed to organics only. I just saw a guy on TV using it in designing a motorcycle part. Do you watch this reality show on Bravo? The one in a motorcycle shop with the father and son team? The young guy they go to to draw the part was using Cinema4d. He makes doing 3d look so easy.

Thanks for the replies. The overall plan is to be able to model anything. And between the two, it looks like I will be able to do that as my skill and experience grows. I do like the fact that Hexagon will allow me to add these fine nuances to the mesh. Coupled with Bodypaint and all the new plugs, these models should turn out nice once I know what I'm doing. Once the download frenzy subsides a little, I'll download Hexagon. For now, I need to dive into my $2,000 investment. Do you use this combo currently? What's the best file format for exchange? |

Cinema 4D is a great app, I loved it whe I tried it some time ago, intuitive and powerful, without a doubt the best all in one (model, animation, render) solution in the 3D panorama. Congratulations by your purchase. Mmm, Cinema 4D 9.5 cost about 699 euros inc VAT. |
