| Object Selection Question
I have a question in reference to the selection of objects, namely is there a way to have the final model in Hexagon 1 (I have pre-ordered H2 because I find Hexagon relatively easy to work with) resemble the way the model looks during particular stages of construction. In case I am unclear, I mean like this (Screenshot 1), as opposed to this (Screenshot 2): I prefer the look of Screenshot 1 because the lines follow the build of the object, and means that I don't have to find a way to make them appear with a texture map (which I have very little knowledge of). And, of course, any help is appreciated |

Thank you for the assist, though I want to make sure that you mean in the final version. By that I mean, if I chose to export it to Carrara, that it would still maintain that look, as opposed to being, essentially, a blank slate.

I guess what I am looking for is to get the look for the surface of the craft as if it were covered by metal plates, and what you would be seeing is the small gaps where the plates meet each other. This is something that I could do in Carrara (by building the appropriate shader) but I personally don't find Carrara as nearly as 'friendly' as it tends to be described by most; while I find Hexagon significantly easier to work with.

Well, you are talking about a texture. You will need to learn to make a shader in Carrara. Even if you get Hex 2, you will have to UV map the ship and load a bitmap texture to paint on it. Then load it into Carrara, and add the other attributes such as shininess and highlight for rendering. Texturing in any application takes a bit of work to totally understand. Carrara's is very powerful and easier than most. You should try studying presets and play with the different channels to see what they do.

Here is a link to a set of textures from Litst. It contains a texture called starship (#20) which is what you are looking for. You can change the colors, etc. to your liking. http://market.renderosity.com/mod/bc...ewProduct=2652 |
