Instability in Designer 7?

Hi all,

I recently bought Amapi 7 Designer and am presently working thru the tutorials in the getting started guide. I am having a problem with this application and am searching for advice on how to deal with it. The extrusion/sweep tool does not work all of the time even tho the points are selected and I have chosen extrusion not sweep. Using undo to back up a step or two causes Amapi to quit. Discarding a tool then selecting another also results in Amapi quitting.

I am using a 1 GHZ G4 Mac with 1.5 Gb of memory currently using OS 10.2.8. I had Amapi installed on a partition running OS 10.3.8 but it seemed even more unstable then. I also use Poser 5, Bryce 5, CorelDraw 11, and Carrara Studio 3.

I have not experienced this type of Instability in any of these other programs at all. I have applied the 7.16 patch but still no joy. Has anyone using a Mac had these kinds of problems? Is the Windows version more stable? TIA for any insight on what to do.

Amapi have some instabilities before 7.1, but 7.16 should be ok. But I perhaps have an idea: what is your video card? Is it an ATI rage 128?

And you say that you bought it recently, you mean when?

Well, I had been saving to get Carrara 4 and looked forward to getting AD7 with it, but they removed it from the market because C5 was ready. I found AD7 by itself at Purplus and felt lucky to find that. I could have gotten a good price on C5 by upgrading from CS3 but I really needed a good modeler and Hexagon requires more horsepower than this old Mac has. Is there a problem by not getting it from Eovia while it was available?

Regards

Hexagon and Amapi 7 have the same engine, then, no need for more horspower.. In fact, Hexagon engine is more optimized than Amapi one.
But no, it's not a problem about getting AD7 at Purplus ;)

OK, thanks Thomas, glad to hear that. So any other clues on what might be happening?

Did you upgrade to 7.16 ? This is not the version on the CD as far as i remember, so you need to download the patch from Eovia' server.

Hi Pete,

Thanks for the suggestion, but yes I did apply the 7.16 patch before posting for help. I am going to experiment a little bit more to determine the exact steps necessary to cause Amapi to quit and repost.

hum.. it shouldn't be a video driver card problem.. Then yes, if you know exact steps which produce these problems, it will help a lot ;)
