It doesn't look like Stuffit problem, archive quits downloading at 5.4 mb. PC version is 90+mb. I unstuffed it with three different Stuffits but archive looks like corrupted on my end. Downloading Mac version didn't work for me even doing it through PC computer. It stopped downloading after 5.4 mb. No idea. Thanks Thomas for answering my annoying q's. |

Can't test the installer, though, as Classic is off my harddrive for... don't even know, hehe. ;)

Yes, unstuffing works the same across many different Stuffit versions. I can see Installer and some plug in folders. As you said Installer is 1.7 Mb and I don't think you can install anything from 1.7Mbs. So, when you run installer in Classic it stops with "End of file" error message. It even creates Amapi 6.1 folder on your drive. Thanks for taking time to check it, DouglasHex |

For me, download is going normal speed and than just suddenly finishes. The archive is normal, Stuffit is not complaining about it. Once unstuffed, folder contains really small installer and some plug-in stuff. Running the installer fails with above mentioned message.:-(

@Thomas: I also don't have download accelerators, nor do I have a slow connection. The way it *looks* is that the installer is corrupt, not the sit-file. If the archive was damaged (not finished downloading, etc.), StuffIt would complain. What I notice, though, is that every browser I tried it with doesn't give me any estimate about the download. It just starts, then ends. How big should the file be? 90MB?

Thanks Thomas, its working now. Archive downloads with no problems. When I expand it though, I have Amapi Installer as "unix exec file". Is there a quick fix for it to become launchable application in Classic. I tried adding ".app" to it, it changes icon and it attempts launch but it doesn't start up. I'll try different Stuffit version. Maybe it will exapand it with proper file type. Funny, last problematic archive didn't have this problem. Anyway, thanks for taking time with this. I am sure this is fixable on my end. Cheers, DouglasHex |

Same here. I can only guess again, but I'd bet that by zipping, the resource fork of the installer was removed. Thomas, are you packing this on a Windows machine or on a Mac? If on a Mac, which system? Also, StuffIt should work OK, but you may need to encode it afterwards. So you'd do a .sit, and then a .bin or .hqx, exentially creating a .sit.hqx. Could very well be that the server on which the archive resides, is the culprit.

But why don't you just use OS X' built-in zip method? Select a folder, context or "File" menu -> Create Archive of... This will create a .zip and will also take care of all the Mac-specific stuff, especially resource forks and such.

Which version of dropzip were you using? Did you have a preference set to make it delete resource forks or such? I mean... the installer just missed an integral part of information -- this must have been deleted at some stage, and most likely during compression. The system's own method of compressing as .zip-archives will take care of that and create a proper archive (if you're running a decently new iteration of 10.3, like 10.3.8 or even .9). Quite a hassle, I know. If you could create .dmgs, all would be well. ;)

Regarding download dropouts I also had it stopping download and auto ubstuffing after about 6Mb. On Mac os9 DSL, Explorer, I suceeded with a download manager, I used the free eval copy of I-Getter, the transfer at a speed of 115 KB/s ( about the fastest I have ever gotton) I'm now scratching my head regarding how the installer is run on os9, looks like I can move it over to an osX system. |

6.1 OS9 installer corupted by zipping? I see the server indicates some 160 downloads of Amapi 6.1 for mac have taken place (My download may have been recorded as 4 counting the 3 aborted efforts before getting the whole file), is it working for some of you on OS9.? Pardon my ignorance, but it has the look of the mac version having been quickly packaged on a PC. The "Amapi 3D 6.1 Installer" I assume is the installer application, after unzipping with stuffit expander, one has a data fork only file with a blank file type icon, I would assume, like usual, the mac resource fork was lost when the files were zipped or when first moved to a PC. |
