| boolean problem
Hey all, -I created a nurbs sphere. - I increase the pts to 26. -I duplicated and scaled the sphere. - I did a boolean sub on it. - the resulting half sphere has a faceted surface. Why? The attached image show what I am doing. -How can I resolve this? I want a smooth surface. - I will render in Carrara (v3). Is there a "smooth render" function in C3? - I there a smooth function when I import the amapi file? Thanks folks! -Alan

There is a smooth render function in the Vertex Object room in Carrara, but you also could use the smooth option in Amapi. Dunno why it creates facets when you do the Boolean operation, I will try to reproduce your scene to see what happens?

Thanks. Yeah I using 7.5. Also, smoothing would work if this was my final action, but I have only started and there are other actions to do. By the way, I am creating that vaccuum tut for rhino. Thanks, Alan

Have you changed any of your NURBS settings (smooth angles, etc)? Are you using the latest OpenGL video driver for your system so you can better tell which display mode you're viewing your objects with (curved or faceted)? ![]() Which of these object views are you using?

Amapi Pro 7 let's you adjust the smoothness of a sphere right when you create one. But all bets are off when a boolean cut creates a new object from it. Amapi Pro 7 then defaults the resulting object to its non-smoothed surface. ![]() After the boolean cut, use the smooth tool to change the object back to the smoothness value you want it to have (26 in this case). ![]() Or you can set your Standard NURBS to a constant value (like 20) so your objects will stay relatively smooth while modeling. Carrara will fake the smoothness of imported objects. But it's still a good idea to actually help it along by including more facets in your Amapi models.
