Help with seemingly simple selections?

I'm (very) new to Amapi, and I have a question that seems simple: I've created a polygonal object and I've smoothed it. I then select some edges and adjust their tension. Fine. Now I want to adjus the tension on some different edges. But I can't find any way to deselect that first group of edges other than clicking them one. at. a. time. Is there really no way to deselect them all?

Probably. If I want to select something other than the edges I current have, I change the selection mode to Object and click once on the object. Then I change the selection mode back to Edge and begin clicking on different edges.

Thanks. That sounds promising, if a bit indirect. Not to be cynical, but I would have hoped that the Unselect All command would, uh, unselect, uh, all.

I tried it just now. Clicking on an already selected facet, edge, or point will de-select it. But it's quicker for me to just select the entire object and start selecting new edges again. The "unselect all" worked for me. I'm using the Windows version of Amapi Pro 7.16.
