Importing a VRML 2.0 file will crash Amapi Pro 7.1x.

Amapi Pro 7.1x will crash in Windows98SE if you import a VRML 2.0 object that you just exported from it. It will also crash if you import a VRML 2.0 file from Carrara 3.0.4.

Hum.. I just tested on 7.15 without anyproblems or crash..
Is it a NURBS object or a polygonal object you tried to export then import ?

In windows98se, I created a basic cube, sphere, and triangle in POLY mode. I exported to VRML 2.0 and closed Amapi Pro 7 (any version, by the way). Then opened the same Amapi and imported the .wrl file. Crash. This bug is in Designer, too.

Will it ever be fixed? Carrara .wrl files crash too when importing into Amapi D/P 7.

I made the mistake of saving the objects as wrl. And since Carrara can't open wrl files, I have no way of getting the objects to obj format (if they are even readable).

Which option do you check when you export from Amapi ? I tested again with the object you told me, no crash... at last, one segment of the triangle is missing when I imported again...

I've tried it with items checked, and not checked. Cortona won't view VRML objects created by Amapi Pro 7.1x anyway. This bug has existed since Amapi Designer 7. Carrara creates VRML objects just fine for Cortona. So is this problem going to be fixed ever?

This is the original A3P file made with Amapi Pro 7.15 in POLY mode on a Windows98SE 1000MHz PIII system with 512MB RAM and ATI Radeon 8500 video card. I haven't tested NURBS mode with VRML import/export yet.

The next file is the VRML 1.0 export that doesn't display in Cortona. Importing this file into Amapi Pro 7.15 will crash the program.

The last file is the VRML 2.0 export that does display in Cortona. But the cone is horizontal instead of vertical. The other objects haven't changed orientation. Importing this file into Amapi Pro 7.15 will cause an error. But no crash.

I don't have Amapi Importer (any version) installed. It was causing too many problems for Carrara 3.0.4. But that's another story.

No crash for the 1st VRML file (vrml1.wrl)
And no crash/error for the second, but, as you said, the cone isn't in the good orientation...
I'll send this to the dev team, thanks!

The cone orientation still doesn't work in Amapi Pro 7.5 (Windows XP SP2).
