| Amapi 5.15 (and Amapi 6) questions...
Hi, I will be planning to purchase Amapi Pro 7 when I have the available money (next year), but now I am concentrating on learning the basics of Amapi using version 5.15. If I become proficient in Amapi 5.15, will the transition to AP7 be smooth? Or is the program so different now that I will have to learn all over again? I hope it will be easy, because Amapi 5 is causing me frustraion in trying to learn it. :? Also, I have done an Amapi 6 tutorial (shoe) but I can NOT get it to open in Carrara 3 which should be able to open .a3d files. Even if I export it as a carrara file it doesn't work. Any ideas? Final question: where can I get an upgrade to Amapi 6.1 from version 5.15? I have emailed Eovia support with this question and their reply was that there is no upgrade to 6 available, and full versions of 6 are not even for sale anymore. He told me that version 5.15 and version 6.1 are very similar and I will not have much difference... what do you think? Do you know where I can get a copy (inexpesive) of Amapi 6? Thank you for your help, and I like this forum very much. Thanks as well for providing the English translation!

Thank you Shonner, I have looked lately on ebay for Amapi 6, but no luck... I've added an email notification today for it though so hopefully it'll show up again so I can catch it. Do you remember much of an improvement in ver.6 over ver.5.15, or should I just be content with what I have until I can afford to get AP7? Thanks, too for the .a3d plugin idea for Carrara; where can I get such an import plugin and what do they approximately cost? Hey, GREAT gi_globe you posted - and COOL website you have!! I like- take care,

You want to download the free Amapi 7 importer plugin from Eovia for your version of Carrara. It will let Carrara read a3d. But it is still best to export to OBJ and import that into Carrara. Remember to triangulate the model first.

huummm.. I think buying Amapi 6 will not be a really good solution. Some features are improved, as the boxmodeling tools, but, actually, the cost of an "upgrade" or full version on ebay is perhaps too much (well... if you find it for $50, why not ; ) You can download the demo of Amapi Pro and Carrara 3, it's fully functionnal for 30 days (and 90 days if I remember for Amapi Designer) and take a closer look. I think you will find it much easier to use ! I know a lot of french users who use Amapi 7 now without any problems after using Amapi 5/6 for years ;) |

| Amapi 6 vs. 5.15
thanks Totyo! I was only planning to buy 6 it if I could find it cheap, cheap, CHEAP (around $30 would probably be my limit)... but that may not happen. So I will do my best to learn from 5.15 and then when I get enough money I can upgrade to 7. I do have the trial Demo copy that came with Carrara 3, but I'm already about 15 days into the 30 day trial period. I can already see how MUCH it has been improved! I think I will focus on learning all the basics in 5.15 for now, so when I upgrade I won't have to start all over at the bottom. Thanks!

its the full version of 5.15 and the demo of 7 that comes with carrara3 i think he means Thomas the diferences between version 5 & 6 are minimal. learning the basic tool functions in version 5 is the smart thing to do ;) version 7 is greatly improved, most of the tools are enhanced however basic modeling techniques are the same for any version. stu |

Thanks Stu, yes I was meaning the full 5.15 that ships with Carrara 3. I appreciate your advice on learning the basics of 5 and trying to get "good" using ver. 5 before tackling the jump to 7 (especially since I can't afford the new 7 version for a long time!) I thought this was the way to go, but I wanted imput from the professionals before deciding.
